Eat & Drink
Emu Park isn’t an area overflowing with food and beverage options but there’s plenty of local favourites we love. Heading to The Honeybee Collective, a coffee window operating out of the ground floor on the beach side of the Emu Park Surf Club, is always a great way to start the day. Take a seat on the deck with your coffee or smoothie and watch the waves roll in. For an afternoon or sunset drink make sure you head to the Emu Park RSL and enjoy what is probably the best views from an RSL in Australia, with a deck enjoying incredible ocean views. When we feel like some takeaway Emu Park Fish & Chips always hits the spot, if you’ve got a sweet tooth be sure to make room for the deep fried pineapple fritters which are dusted with a powdery, cinnamon and sugar coating. If you’re looking for more options, head to the town centre of Yeppoon which is roughly 20 minutes drive north along the coast. Within the park itself, both BBQ and Camp Kitchen areas are well maintained and will more than do the job for any cooking you’d like to do.
To Do List
Directly out the front of the park you’ll find Fisherman’s Beach which has calm surf and is a great spot for a morning dip. If you want to surf, you’re best to head over to the Emu Park Main Beach which is under 1km away. We love to get out and explore the nearby Keppel Island and you’ll need a boat to do so, either with a tour group or on a ferry. These all depart from the Keppel Bay Marina approximately 10 minutes drive away. If you’re after a tour we highly recommend the team at Keppel Explorer who offer a half day “5 in 1” island hopping tour where you’ll get to explore these beautiful waters and even do some snorkelling. Each tour is only a small group of 12 which is something we look for when on any sort of boat based tour. Exercise caution if you’re getting in the water during stinger season which typically has a warning window running from October to May. We always think the best thing to do is check with someone at the park or if you’re at the main beach from the surf club before getting in the water.
Heads Up
Whilst there isn’t a pool at the park, you of course have the beach right behind you although as noted this isn’t always accessible for a swim due to marine stingers. If there are stingers about and you’re keen for a swim, there’s a local public pool in Emu Park or make the drive up to Yeppoon and enjoy the expansive resort style public lagoon pool there.
