ParkBooker Pick

We’re big fans of Glamping accommodation an whilst the options here don’t have the private bathroom and kitchen facilities that you may find elsewhere, each has a plush queen bed, outdoor furniture and your own firepit to enjoy evenings under the stars and several other thoughtful amenities like a fan, USB charging ports, and a Bluetooth speaker.

Pricing

Unpowered Sites from $26 per night, Powered Sites from $40 per night, Glamping from $159 per night.

Eat & Drink

The park is in a relatively secluded area but if you’re happy to jump into the car and drive 15 minutes or so, there’s plenty of options around to find somewhere for a meal or a drink. The Old Fernvale Bakery & Cafe is always a crowd-pleaser, famous for their huge range of 100+ delicious pies. There’s a few different pubs in the area and our favourite is the Bottletree Hotel in Glamorgan Vale, a classic country pub with warm hospitality, a great atmosphere and consistent counter meals. In the opposite direction to the Bottletree you’ll find the Esk Grand Hotel which is also great, and probably a preference when the sun is out thanks to its large beer garden. Whilst there is no Camp Kitchen within the park, there are electric BBQs available.

To Do List

With a location sitting directly on Lake Wivenhoe, there’s no surprises that plenty of our activity recommendations are out on the water. The lake is great to explore on Kayak, SUP or Canoe and if you don’t have a vessel with you, you can hire a canoe at reception. Whilst you’re out on the lake (or from the banks), why not cast a line? You’ll find Golden Perch, Silver Perch, Australian Bass and more. Note that fishing permits will need to be purchased from reception. For some land-based activity, the Wivenhoe Hills Trail is a 16-kilometre multi-use trail network that is suitable for both walking and bikes. There are four different colour-coded trails available, each around 4 km and can of course be combined for a longer journey.

Heads Up

Whilst there is a boat ramp, there is a limit on the types of vessels allowed and speeds cannot exceed 6 knots. Water skiing, jet skiing, wakeboarding and tubing are strictly not permitted on the lake. Whilst it does mean a few less activities are on offer, it greatly helps the peaceful environment and enjoyment of all visitors.
