Eat & Drink

The park is conveniently located on the edge of the township of Wonthaggi so there’s plenty of great eating and drinking options at your doorstep. Our go-to coffee spot is Folks Specialty Coffee, a local roaster who also serves delicious all-day brunch, burgers and toasted sandwiches. About 15 minutes drive away you’ll find Harman Wines, a family owned and operated vineyard that has a cellar door and restaurant open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday serving up delicious Tapas and Wood Fired Pizzas. It’s a great place to come for a relaxing afternoon. For something closer to the park, The Wonthaggi Club serves up consistent counter meals with a friendly atmosphere.

To Do List

One of the best ways to explore the region is via the Bass Coast Rail Trail, a 23km trail of sand, gravel and boardwalk that is perfect for exploring on foot or bike. The trail runs through the Wonthaggi hinterland, past the sand dunes of Dalyston, across the beautiful Kilcunda Trestle Bridge and all the way to the breathtaking ocean views of Woolamai. The Bass Coast is known for its beaches, but due to their powerful surf and regular rips they are far more suited to surfers than they are swimmers. Nearby Cape Paterson Beach is the safest spot for a swim in the shallows or in the large man made ocean rock pool. In the town of Wonthaggi you’ll find Artspace, a gallery showcasing artists and craftspeople from the region that is also well worth a visit.

Heads Up

This is a rugged and beautiful stretch of coast but please exercise caution if getting into the water for a surf or a swim, all beaches face south-west and receive the full force of the south-westerly winds and waves, meaning there are usually at least 40 rips along the six beaches of the coast.
