Eat & Drink

Our favourite spot for a coffee and morning snack is actually a little coffee truck called Miss Buzz, from the team behind the well known “Miss Fizz” based in nearby Geelong. The truck can be in different spots through the year, but you’ll currently find it at the recently opened Portarlington Food Park precinct. Speaking of food trucks, the Holiday Park itself has an area that they’ll often be operating in so be sure to check in with the team at reception ahead of your stay to see if you’re in luck. The recently refurbished Portarlington Grand Hotel is a fantastic spot for lunch, dinner or a drink in between. There’s well done pub classics, but also plenty of more innovative ‘Modern Australian” style fare. This area is known for its Mussels and we highly recommend them here. They're served simply with a tomato sugo, fresh herbs and plenty of crusty bread to dip into the sauce. Speaking of mussels, the annual Portarlington Mussel Festival runs on the second Saturday of January if you happen to be here, and is well worth a visit to learn about and sample a variety of mussels and enjoy some live entertainment. One of our favourite parts about the location of Portarlington is its proximity to some of the best wineries on the Bellarine Peninsula. Our go to is Jack Rabbit, located less than ten minutes drive away and boasting an unbeatable view of Corio Bay. We love the “Z Blade” wine tasting experience where you take a Z-shaped holder with 5 glass tubes of different wines back to your table and enjoy in your own time, rather than feeling unnecessarily rushed by others who are tasting at the same time.

To Do List

Sitting right on the edge of the park you’ll find Portarlington Beach, a long stretch of sand dotted with cypress trees and facing north with calm bay waters making it a picturesque place to relax or enjoy a swim. The water does get pretty chilly here so you won’t find us swimmin outside of the summer months! This is always a popular spot for fishing and off the nearby pier you’ll find snapper, mullet, garfish and whiting throughout the year. If you’ve brought a boat, the park conveniently has its own ramp making it very easy to get out on the water. Portarlington Golf Club is worth a visit for golfers of all experience levels and open to the public 7 days a week. If the weather is getting in the way of your round, there’s also an indoor golf simulator so you can still have a hit. On the last Sunday of each month the local market runs and is well worth a visit to find some unique local produce, handmade soaps, gifts, homewares and more.

Heads Up

If you’re booking a site and want to be close to the beach but avoid the modest premium for the Beachfront Sites, book a “Foam Rd” or “Anglers Rd” site - whilst not directly on the beach, they are the closest of the rest just one row over. This is a BIG park, so if you prefer a more boutique experience, we’d encourage you to look elsewhere.
