Eat & Drink
Whilst this is a relatively secluded area and not overflowing with options when it comes to eating and drinking out, the options that do exist are well worth a visit. The Apollonian Hotel is a local pub with a lot of history. It was first licensed in 1868 but actually started in nearby Gympie before being moved to Boreen point in 1986. You can enjoy a cold drink or counter meal for lunch or dinner 7 days a week here. For something takeaway, Tralala is the spot offering a broad range of options from Jaffles to Bacon and Egg Rolls and of course coffee. Both of these locations are an easy walk from the park. If your preference is just to remain in the park and you haven’t come with your own cooking materials then don’t stress, both a Camp Kitchen and BBQ are available. For any last minute provisions the local general store is well stocked and also an easy walk away.
To Do List
With an absolute waterfront location on Lake Cootharaba, this is the sort of place to while away the day either with a book in hand enjoying the view or out on the water. If you’re keen to get out on the water and aren't travelling with any equipment that will allow you to do so, the park offers both Kayak and SUP Hire. There’s plenty of fishing action, mainly further into the lake than in the shallows. You’ll find various varieties of fish but it's generally dominated by Bream and Catfish. If you’re after a more structured or organised activity, we highly recommend Everglades Eco Safaris for a boat trip to learn more about the incredible ecosystem that thrives in the waterways of this area. There are both full day (6 hours) and half day (3 hours) options and conveniently these tours set off from and return to a jetty roughly 5 minutes drive from the park. If you want to get the blood pumping but stay dry, the Kinaba Trail is an 11.3-km out-and-back trail that starts roughly 5 minutes drive away from the park. It’s a relatively flat walk where you’ll come across various types of forest and bushland - be sure to bring your mosquito repellent and given the length of the trail, we only recommend it if you’re an experienced hiker or in good fitness.
Heads Up
Boreen Point is a relatively secluded town and whilst the General Store is well stocked and there is a limited selection of cafes and restaurants. We recommend coming prepared with provisions. If you’re looking to surf, do note that whilst the beach seems close it is not easily accessible.
