Eat & Drink
Sandbar Cafe is about 15 minutes walk from the park located on the banks of the river and serving up great coffee as well as your classic breakfast and lunch dishes. We love the Harvest Bowl, a healthy combination of Roasted Chats, Broccoli, Mushrooms, Avocado, Seasoned Greens, Beetroot Relish and a Poached Egg. When we’re keen on a dinner out we make the less than 10 minute drive over to nearby Laurieton and head to Delizioso. Here you’ll find a good range of authentic Italian food served in a friendly and casual setting. The Porchetta is one of our favourite dishes, but you can’t go wrong with any of the woodfired pizzas.
To Do List
Nearby Dooragan National Park has some excellent trails suited to all fitness levels. The 600m Rainforest Loop takes you out to a beautiful lookout point over Diamond Head, and back through the lush rainforest where you’ll see a variety of vegetation. When you’re ready for a dip, head to the pool on site in the park or make the 700m walk down to the beautiful North Haven Beach which stretches 3.5 km of golden sands. The Camden Haven Inlet located almost directly out front of the park is also a great spot for a dip, and an even better spot to get out your kayak or SUP and explore. For something slightly different, on the third Sunday of every month in nearby Laurieton the Riverwalk Markets are well worth a visit to explore a range of fresh local produce and crafts. Last time we were at the markets we enjoyed some delicious Middle Eastern food from The Habibiz - track them down if they’re there. We love the serenity of this peaceful, small town but if you are after a bit more to do you can also visit Port Macquarie which is only 30 minutes drive away.
Heads Up
About half the sites here are permanents or annuals which we know is a park characteristic some travellers like to avoid, but in our experience it doesn’t change the atmosphere here.
