Eat & Drink
Kilcunda itself is a quiet town but across the road from the park you’ll find the local pub, the Kilcunda Ocean View Hotel (also known as “The Killy”). The pub serves up cold drinks and great pub fare, ranging from your favourite classics to some South and Central American inspired dishes thanks to their Head Chef hailing from Cuba. For cafe fare, snacks and great coffee, the Kilcunda General Store which is also located across the road from the park is your go to. Just 5 minutes drive up the road you’ll find Silverwaters Vineyard, a family owned and run vineyard producing Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz. They have a Cellar Door open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 12pm to 5pm where you can enjoy a glass of wine and a small snack to go with it whilst taking in some beautiful ocean views.
To Do List
There’s a beautiful beach at your doorstep from this accommodation which is great for rock and surf fishing. You’ll also find several rock pools that the kids love to play in. There’s plenty of great surf along this coast and one of the most famous breaks in the world, Woolamai Beach, is just 15 minutes drive away. The Bourne Creek Trestle Bridge is a local landmark and offers beautiful views through to the coastline with this original railway bridge in the foreground making it a popular spot for photographers. From Kilcunda, it’s approximately 20 minutes drive to the near side of Phillip Island or closer to 30 if you want to get over to the neighbourhood of Cowes. We love visiting the Cowes Market every Sunday, and of course if you haven’t experienced it before the Penguin Parade on Phillip Island is a must. If you happen to be here on Australia day weekend the annual Kilcunda Lobster Festival will be running and is always a fun day out with live music, kids activities and of course delicious food.
Heads Up
There is a pub and a general store across the road from the park but beyond that, Kilcunda is a pretty sleepy town. This is part of the charm for us, but be warned if you are looking for a broader selection of cafes, restaurants, shops and groceries you’ll need to pop in the car and make the 10-15 minute drive to San Remo or Wonthaggi.
