Eat & Drink
There is an up-and-coming wine scene in this area and just 40 minutes drive north from the park you’ll find four great wineries each of which have a cellar door you can visit - Clovely Estate, Dusty Hill Wines, Nuova Scola Wines, Moffatdale Ridge. Given their proximity, it would be easy to visit all of them in one day but if you were to pick just one our favourite is Clovely Estate. They offer tastings of both their wines and spirits that are distilled at the vineyard in a beautiful outdoor setting complemented by a grazing menu of food. Closer to the park there is no shortage of options within Kingaroy itself. Our go to is the Commercial Hotel, a classic country pub serving up consistent counter meals with a menu made up of all your favourites. The beer garden is a great spot for an afternoon drink on a warm day. Hunter Gatherer Trader is our favourite spot for a coffee and a sweet treat - the muffins are great. Within the park itself the Camp Kitchen is modern and has everything you need including Pizza Ovens and BBQs available. Be sure to also stop by reception where they stock various local products that may come in handy for your cooking.
To Do List
Roughly 45 minutes drive away you’ll find the Bunya Mountains, home to a lush rainforest, eucalypt forests and woodlands and named after the Bunya Pine. Within the National Park there’s several trails that can be explored both on foot or on bike, bird-lovers will be in paradise with over 130 species present. The Kilkivan to Kingaroy Rail Trail is a favourite path to explore, particularly if you have a bike. It is 89 km long with the first 44 km from Kingaroy being a sealed path. You’ll feel a strong sense of history as you explore the old stock routes from this region. Within the park itself there’s a large, new swimming pool and the team runs frequent happy hours which are a great chance to meet your fellow travellers.
Heads Up
Kingaroy itself is a relatively built up town so likely isn’t the destination for you if you’re looking for a more remote experience in this area. That said, the park has beautifully manicured gardens and a distinct country feel to it.
