Eat & Drink
We like to start our day by making the 25-30 minute walk into the town of Apollo Bay and grabbing a coffee at Hello Coffee, a local specialty coffee roaster with a small cafe menu as well. This area is known for its seafood and there are several great options to indulge in some of the local products. We recommend going straight to the source and heading to one of the Apollo Bay Fisherman's Co-Op locations. Down at the harbour they serve cooked food out of their Fish and Chip shop, or if you want to buy some fresh produce and take it back to the park to cook yourself head to their store on Pascoe St. If you love your seafood we highly recommend visiting during February when the Apollo Bay Seafood Festival is held. The Great Ocean Brewhouse is our favourite spot for a drink. This classic pub serves up your counter meal favourites and has over 100 craft beers on offer including the full range of the cult favourite Prickly Moses beers which they brew in house.
To Do List
One of our favourite Great Ocean Road activities is located right next to the park, a guided tour visiting a colony of seals aboard a kayak run by the team at Apollo Bay Surf & Kayak. You’ll head out on the water for 90 minutes paddling with qualified guides and learning all about the Australian Fur Seal. Speaking of marine life, about 150m offshore from the park you’ll find the Marengo Reef Marine Sanctuary which is home to 12 hectares of marine life and is a great place for snorkelling and diving. Outside of learning all about the local marine ecosystem there’s plenty of other activities to be done in the water here, from enjoying a swim at the beach to getting out for a surf. The water here is generally on the cooler side which is fine in the summer months as the weather outside is warmer, but we highly recommend a wetsuit if you’re swimming here in the winter months. For some dry-land activities, a visit to the nearby Redwood Beech Forest is highly recommended with several trails suitable for all levels of hiking expertise.
Heads Up
The park is located approximately 2.5km away from the township of Apollo Bay but it is an easy walk, bike ride or drive into town.
