We’re big fans of the Tiny Houses which offer a great way to holiday sustainably whilst maintaining plenty of creature comforts at an affordable price. Each is less than 2 metres wide but are thoughtfully designed and constructed from a variety of reclaimed materials. Inside each you’ll find a cosy bed for two as well as a small kitchenette and your own ensuite bathroom. Outside there’s a great deck with plenty of space to sit and enjoy connecting with nature as well as your own private BBQ.

Eat & Drink

Just sticking around the park is a fantastic way to spend your trip, which of course can include cooking up a storm on site. Glamping and Tiny House options come with well appointed kitchens, or if you’re on a site you’ll need to cook over fire. If you haven’t come with provisions or managed to catch something in the river, then the twin towns of Hawks Nest and Tea Gardens are less than ten minutes drive away. Our tip is to head to the Tea Gardens Fish Market which is open daily from 9:30am except on Mondays when it closes. You’ll find fresh local lobster, king prawns, oysters and a variety of fish. Within both towns there are also plenty of food and beverage options we’d recommend if you feel like a meal or a drink out. The Tea Gardens Hotel is a classic seaside pub serving up pub favourites as well as burgers, sandwiches and pizzas. For a meal with a view, we love enjoying a long lunch or dinner sitting on the deck overlooking the river at Mumms on the Myall, also located in Tea Gardens. If you enjoy seafood, you can’t go past their delicious seafood platter which can be made up for any number of people you desire and includes a variety of fresh seafood. If they’re available, the giant skull island prawns are particularly good. There’s a courtesy bus that will take you there to and from the park. Several food vans also come past the camp grounds so be sure to chat with reception on arrival and find out who will be there during your stay.

To Do List

Thanks to its incredible natural setting and eco-friendly ethos this place is all about the enjoyment and relaxation that comes from connecting to your natural surroundings. Walking around the park is always a peaceful experience and one where you’ll spot a variety of interesting animals ranging from kookaburras and black cockatoos to goannas. There’s plenty to do on the water, of course going for a swim is always recommended but the flat and calm nature of this waterway lends itself perfectly to getting out on a kayak or SUP and exploring further. If you’ve come with a boat, there’s a dedicated ramp to get you out there quickly. For those keen to cast a line, you’ll likely find flathead, bream and mulloway and there’ll also be prawns and mud crabs about if you’ve got the right equipment. The makings of a fantastic feast to cook up at the end of the day! If you’re about at sunrise or sunset you’re every chance to spot some beautiful bottlenose dolphins who like to cruise along the river. Come evening time, we love settling in around one of the fire pits.

Heads Up

If you are camping or in a vehicle without a shower do note that you’ll need to head to the river when you want to wash off as there are no communal showers here. The water here is reputed to be great for your skin and hair as it contains tea tree oils.
