We love kicking off our day by making the walk along the coast to the Nelson Bay town centre which takes about 25 minutes. Here our favourite spot for a morning coffee and breakfast is The Little Nel. Their menu is full of breakfast classics plus plenty of interesting, more innovative options. If you are keen to try something slightly different to your standard breakfast fare, we highly recommend the Shishito Chilli Scrambled Eggs which have a distinct Asian flavour to them.
Just 500m from the park you’ll find our favourite place for Lunch, Dinner or an afternoon drink, Little Beach Boathouse. This is a slightly more upscale venue but still very approachable and not at all overpriced. If you are going for just a meal, we recommend getting there a little earlier to enjoy the incredible setting of their “Below Deck” bar area jutting out over the water. Food wise, it’s hard to go past the Market Fish in a location like this but make sure you also add an entree of the Boathouse Salt & Native Pepper Fried Squid to your order.
If you're staying within the park, the BBQ and Camp Kitchen areas are both well maintained and perfect for cooking up just about any meal.
Shoal Bay Beach can be accessed from the park and is a great spot for a swim or simply to sit on the sand and bask in the beauty of its turquoise coloured waters. The waters are very gentle making it a great spot for kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding. If you’re wanting a beach with some surf, your best bet is to head to One Mile Beach, approximately ten minutes drive away which is patrolled daily outside of the winter months.
This area is a great spot for getting a boat out on the water and that’s made easy at this park thanks to the onsite dedicated boat trailer parking and access to a public boat ramp. If you’re fishing, you’ll likely find Bream and Snapper closer to the coast and Barramundi if you get out on the water a bit further. For something a little different, we highly recommend the team at Sahara Trails Horse Riding who offer a variety of options ranging from beach rides to bush trails. There are rides suitable for all skill and experience levels, get in touch with the team and talk them through what you’d like to do and your experience and they’ll make a great recommendation.
A short drive away you’ll find Nelson Bay Golf Club which offers 27 holes in a lush, tree-lined setting that is open to visitors. If you’re keen on some entertainment within the park, often on a Sunday there will be live music in the common areas at the park which is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon and meet some fellow travellers.
Whilst there's several great Holiday Parks in the area, this one is the closest to Nelson Bay.
