Eat & Drink
Start your day with a coffee at Cody’s Coffee Shack, located on Torquay Beach (one beach over or about 25 minutes by foot from the park) and serving up what we think is the best coffee in the area. If you’re wanting something closer to the park, Bean Beat is just minutes away and also serves up consistent coffee. Hervey Bay is famed for its scallops which find their way onto tables at some of the best restaurants in Australia, but its broader dining offering is equally impressive and usually focused on fresh seafood. Enzo’s On The Beach is an all-day spot with a diverse menu. Head there for a sunset drink and enjoy one of their seafood platters, our favourite is the cold platter which includes Moreton Bay Bugs, Prawns, Mussels, Oysters and more. Our favourite though is Odyssey Bistro, a relaxed fine dining spot with a focus on sustainable, quality ingredients sourced from local small-scale producers - so much so that their menu changes weekly depending on what is available from local producers.
To Do List
Hervey Bay is a renowned destination for whale watching during the migration season of July to October. If you’re here during this period we highly recommend getting out on the water with a tour from the team at Whalesong Cruises. Thanks to calm and rip-free waters, Hervey Bay is a great place to go for a swim at the beach which is conveniently located right in front of the park. Be sure to check with the staff at the park around stinger season ahead of heading out into the water. Given the calm waters, cruising around on a kayak or stand up paddleboard is also a great activity. A visit to nearby K’Gari (Fraser Island) is a must if you have the time. This is an island of stunning natural beauty that is steeped in history and culture. You can learn about this traditional land of the Butchulla people through a variety of guided tours and cultural experiences. K’gari Explorer Tours is our favourite tour company, and they have a full day tour that departs from Hervey Bay. If you’ve got kids with you (or are simply young at heart) a visit to WetSide Water Park located next door is an absolute must. The park includes a large water play area as well as Water Slides and the “Aqua Ninja” adventure course, admission to the park is free but water slides and the adventure course do have a cost per ride.
Heads Up
Powered Sites are split into “Non-Beachfront” and “Beachfront” categories with the Beachfront Sites costing approximately $10 more per night. These are well worth it with each including a concrete pad for your annex and being located as close to the Hervey Bay foreshore as you can get.
