A short walk away you’ll find Kacy’s Restaurant, a great spot for dinner with its expansive deck looking over the ocean and seafood driven menu. The local bowlo is the Sandhills Sports Club which has a modern bistro and is a great spot for a well priced counter meal.
The regional centre of Bundaberg is just 15 minutes drive away and has several more options. Whilst we don’t think you need to leave the beachside area of Bargara for much, a visit to the Ballistic Beer Co. Brewhouse in Bundaberg is well worth it to sample their great range of craft beers.
Don’t overlook the facilities at the park, given its beautiful location we love cooking up a BBQ and heading over to enjoy our food on the beach. If you can’t be bothered cooking but are still keen to enjoy a meal on the beach, See Street Seafood is our go to of the local fish and chip shops.
Bargara Beach is directly in front of the park and a great spot for a swim and is patrolled in the Summer months. Whilst it’s rare for Stingers to venture this far south, they can end up in these areas with specific weather conditions so we recommend checking with the Surf Club ahead of your swim.
To learn more about local marine ecology a visit to the Mon Repos Turtle Centre is a must. Mon Repos is an area that supports the largest concentration of nesting marine turtles on the eastern Australian mainland and has the most significant loggerhead turtle nesting population in the South Pacific region. At the Turtle Centre you’ll learn all about these amazing creatures and if you’re there from November to March, get the chance to go on a tour of the conservation park with a Ranger guide and learn about turtle conservation and research, turtle tracks and nesting sites.
If you have the time, a day trip to Lady Musgrave Island is a must. The most southerly island in the Great Barrier Reef, Lady Musgrave is encircled by a massive, vibrant turquoise lagoon and encompasses an area of 3000 acres and is a haven for marine life, home to some of the best snorkelling there is. We highly recommend the team at Lady Musgrave Experience which departs from nearby Bundaberg Port. The Full Day tour includes snorkelling gear hire, a guided glass bottom boat tour & guided island walk as well as a delicious buffet lunch. If you’re keen to scuba dive, add ons are also available.
Powered Slab Sites are located on either side of the park. On the beachside, you’ll enjoy closer proximity to the water with the trade off of a slightly small site. On the nature reserve side of the park, sites are larger and there is more shade but you’ll have a longer walk to get to the beach.
Check In is 12pm for Sites and 2pm for Cabins, Check Out is 10am for all accommodation.
