Your guide to this area

Eating & Drinking

The park has a remote setting, your main options for getting out to eat or drink are located approximately 4 km away in the town of Agnes Water.

Coffee & Cake Agnes Water is a great spot serving up exactly what it says it will. For a counter meal or a refreshing beverage head to the Agnes Water Tavern, a classic Australian coastal pub. If you visit on a weekend you’ll also enjoy some live music in the casual atmosphere of their palm tree lined beer garden. In a coastal town like this we find it hard to go past a great fish & chip shop, and Off The Hook Fish and Chips is the perfect spot if you feel like a casual takeaway meal made up of some of the freshest seafood you’ll eat.

If your preference is to keep your meals closer to home, you’re in the right accommodation to do it. The park features a brand new camp kitchen including electric BBQs and a wood fired pizza oven. There’s also an espresso coffee machine which is a great touch.

To Do List

We love just going for a wander around the property here and taking in the beautiful native plants and trees including some enormous gums and palms whilst keeping our eyes peeled for some animal spotting. You’ll find kangaroos, kookaburras, echidnas, and a variety of other birdlife including of course the bush turkey.

When you’ve worked up a sweat on your wanders, head to the beautifully designed swimming pool which was recently built. In this lush hinterland setting it is easy to forget that the coastline is less than 15 minutes drive away, and not just any old coastline - head down to 1770 Marina and join a tour out to the Great Barrier Reef. We recommend the team at 1770 Reef Eco Tours and the trip to visit the 14 hectares of coral cay and neon blue waters that make up Lady Musgrave Island is a favourite.

If you’re just keen to head to the ocean for a swim, our pick of the local beaches is 1770 Beach, a protected spot with no waves making it perfect for swimmers of all ages.

Heads Up

The park is divided into two areas and the Grass Trees campground is our preference due to its elevated location which makes for great views. Access to this is via a steep road and not suitable for vans over 7m in length and 1.5 tonnes in weight. You’ll need a 4WD capable of getting up a steep hill to access.
