As Australia’s craft beer scene has exploded in recent years the Sunshine Coast has become somewhat of a mecca, dubbed by some as the ‘craft beer capital of Australia’. It’s always had one of the best beer drinking climates going around, and now there are over 20 brewers plying their trade in the area, most of whom are open for a visit and a tasting. Here are five that we love to visit.
1. BROUHAHA: MALENY
Nestled in the scenic hinterland town of Maleny, Brouhaha emerged in 2016 when four local mates set out to build their ultimate brewpub. They haven’t turned back since and now have a cult following and 2 additional locations. Their beers are delicious but the food alone is well worth coming for too.
Must try: The “Life Is Peachy” Sour Beer has a silky mouthfeel and sweet and sour taste, a perfectly executed example of the sour beer trend.
2. HEADS OF NOOSA: NOOSAVILLE
One of the original craft breweries in the region, Heads of Noosa has long been a fixture on many local restaurant and bar menus and remains that way for good reason. Whilst it’s great that it’s accessible, a visit to the brewery itself is well worth it, with knowledgeable passionate staff and live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Must try: The Japanese Lager is clean, crisp and as refreshing as it comes. A true crowd-pleaser.
3. YOUR MATES: WARANA
Located in the underrated town of Warana, Your Mates is a hub of activity with rotating tap beers and a menu highlighted by 12 hour smoked meats and loaded parmies. If you’re a fan of the show Shark Tank, you may have spotted these guys before!
Must try: The “Eddie” XPA is a mid-strength beer at 3.5%, but is anything but mid in flavour. With notes of melon, pineapple, nectarine and pine this is a delicious, sessionable beer.
4. BOILING POT: NOOSAVILLE
Located in the heart of Noosaville, Boiling Pot is a spacious, light filled venue that is a hit with locals and tourists alike. The main event food wise are the traditional Roman-style pizza, handmade to order - the perfect accompaniment to a cold beer.
Must try: The Golden Ale is what the team describe as their take on ‘Noosa in a can’. It’s refreshing, slightly tropical and great for any occasion.
5. TERELLA: NORTH ARM
With a unique location in North Arm, a rural setting between the hinterland and farms of the Sunshine Coast, surrounded by crops and free-roaming cattle, Terella is far from your regular brewpub. The farmyard has a variety of animals and welcomes visits, making this one of the most family friendly breweries around.
Must try: The Hazy IPA is absolutely flavour packed with tropical notes and a fist full of hops. Fruity, cloudy and delicious!
