1. TORAKINA BEACH, BRUNSWICK HEADS
Why it’s great for kids: Sitting in between the breakwalls at the mouth of the Brunswick River, Torakina is ideal for kids as it is always perfectly flat. Whilst it’s not patrolled, it doesn’t need to be as there is no danger of surf rolling in.

2. WATEGOS BEACH, BYRON BAY
Why it’s great for kids: One of the most beautiful beaches in the world, the stunning waters of Wategos are as blue as they are thanks to its protected coastal geography, which also means calmer waters for the kids.

3. MOOBALL CREEK, POTTSVILLE
Why it’s great for kids: Technically not a beach, these beautiful blue waters stretch for some way but the best spot for a swim is conveniently located directly out the front of the Pottsville South Tourist Park, where the waters expand as they open out to the beach meaning fresh clear water, but still calm conditions.

4. MAIN BEACH, BYRON BAY
Why it’s great for kids: Whilst Byron’s famous main beach can pick up a bit more surf than others listed here, it’s patrolled year round and it’s hard to go past the convenience of this brilliant location in the heart of Byron Bay.

5. LENNOX HEAD BEACH, LENNOX HEAD
Why it’s great for kids: Despite being a surf beach the waters here are generally calm, and if your kids are a little older, they can even do some snorkelling at the southern end of the beach which is known locally as “The Moat”.
