Eat & Drink
Given this is a remote location, we’ll focus on eating and drinking options within the park. There’s a small kiosk available on site, but as always we recommend you come well stocked with provisions to avoid disappointment - the closest shops are located 2 hours drive away in the town of Injune. The Camp Kitchen facilities are fantastic, all well kept and maintained and including BBQs, a pizza oven, microwave and toaster. The “Taka Bush Bar” operates daily at the park, serving up a range of your favourite alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages at very affordable prices. Opening hours of Taka are always some of our favourite times of the day, and offer the perfect setting to socialise with your fellow travellers.
To Do List
The showpiece of this area is of course Carnarvon Gorge, which attracts both those seeking to get out on a hike and explore its stunning sandstone cliffs and deep gorges, as well those who want to learn about the areas ancient Aboriginal rock art, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and cultural history. Whilst joining a tour is not an absolute must, we highly recommend joining one to get a deeper understanding of the area. The team at the park will happily talk you through a range of options that vary in price as well as their focal points, ranging all the way from hikes to photography groups. Nature is on show in this area beyond the Gorge itself, within the area you’ll find a wide variety of animal life including 173 species of birds, 60 different mammals, 22 species of frogs and 90 reptiles. In the creek that wraps around the park, you’ll find one of our favourites - the platypus. Check with park staff where the best place to spot them is and when to go. To learn more about the area, daily information sessions are held at the park. The timing of these can change so if you’re interested in attending check with the team at reception on arrival.
Heads Up
This a particularly secluded area, and the nearest fuel station is located in the town of Rolleston, roughly 100 km away. Make sure you fill up before you make your journey here.
