Eat & Drink

Blue Swimmer Restaurant is one of our favourite’s locally, and is one of those unique places that is just as good to visit at breakfast as it is for dinner. Fresh, local produce is the focus here and as you’d expect in this location, the seafood dishes are particularly good. At breakfast time, you’ll find a range of classics with a twist and come lunch or dinner time, we think it’s best to take the lead from the staff and go for what they think is good from the fresh produce they’ve got on that day, more often than not this will be the market fish. A short drive away in the rolling green hills behind Gerroa you’ll find Crooked River Wines. This beautiful winery and gourmet restaurant is a bit of a hidden secret, we love the lamb shoulder and pairing it with their “Saddleback Mountain” red wine blend, a delicious combination of Chambourcin, Sangiovese, and Cabernet. For a classic counter meal or a cold drink with a view, the Gerroa Boat Fisherman’s Club is also a solid option.

To Do List

Gerroa is a laid back town that revolves around the ocean and the focus is Seven Mile Beach, a beautiful stretch of coastline that has something for beachgoers of all ages and hobbies. If you’ve got younger kids with you we recommend sticking to the shallow waters near the river mouth, but if you’re a surfer then getting further away from the river mouth you’ll find reliable swell. If you’re in town from May to November you’ll have a chance to spot whales migrating. Nestled at the end of Seven Mile Beach, Black Head Reserve is the perfect place to perch and spot them. Crooked River runs right through Gerroa feeding out to the oceans and offers a range of water-based activities. Its calm waters are perfect for kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding, and for the fisherman it’s a great spot to find flathead, whiting, mullet and the occasional bream. For those keen to explore what the beautiful National Park of this area has to offer, we recommend lacing up your walking shoes and visiting the Sand Track Walk which has two routes (North and South) where you’ll find a variety of native flora and fauna and take in some incredible views over the ocean along the way.

Heads Up

Whilst Gerroa itself isn’t a town with lots of shops, just a 5 minute drive away is the town of Gerringong which has all you need.
