Lunch Stop: The 4 Best Places To Stop For Lunch Between Melbourne And The Sapphire Coast
Melbourne to the Sapphire Coast is a drive we know many of our community love taking, and whether or not you’re staying somewhere along the way, you’ll always need to make a stop for lunch.
Melbourne to the Sapphire Coast is a drive we know many of our community love taking, and whilst there are plenty of great overnight (or multiple night) stops you can make along the way, we know some people prefer to do the journey in one hop. Regardless of your trip plans, you’ll always need to make a stop for lunch! Here are four of our favourite spots.
1. OLD ROSEDALE BAKERY: ROSEDALE
Why we love them: Nothing says ‘road trip’ to us like a stop at a classic Australian country bakery, and this is one of the best around. A great selection of both sweet and savoury treats are available for takeaway or to dine in with extensive seating available. Be prepared to queue in busier hours, but it always moves fast.
Our favourite dish: We can’t settle on one - Vanilla Slice for the sweet tooth, or a Steak & Pepper Pie if you’re after something savoury.
Where to find them: 21 Prince St, Rosedale VIC
2. MR D. FOOD & COFFEE: BAIRNSDALE
Why we love them: Friendly service in a stylishly fitted out venue that is serving up what we think is the best coffee in the region. Whether you’re after takeaway to eat in the car or dining in and taking a break, there’s something for everyone. If you’re in a particular rush you can even order ahead online.
Our favourite dish: The House Banana Bread, served with whipped mascarpone, honey, banana chips and berries.
Where to find them: 194 Main St, Bairnsdale VIC
3. SODAFISH: LAKES ENTRANCE
Why we love them: Serving fresh, locally caught seafood on a unique pontoon location floating on the Lakes Entrance Harbour, Sodafish is one of the very best restaurants in this region and we couldn’t go past adding it to the list despite the fact that it isn’t your typical takeaway lunch spot. Be prepared to dine in and settle in to your meal for an hour or so. A great place to get a taste for Lakes Entrance and decide if you want to spend some more time there next time!
Our favourite dish: Fresh seafood abound, go for the Arrow Squid served with burnt pumpkin risotto and hazelnuts.
Where to find them: Middle Boat Harbour The Esplanade, Lakes Entrance VIC
4. SUNDAYSS: MALLACOOTA
Why we love them: Beautiful coffee and fresh food located directly opposite the Foreshore Caravan Park, Sundayss brings a new energy to the local hospitality scene and is squarely focused on the takeaway customer. Note, they do close for the colder months of the year so check ahead if you’re visiting in winter.
Our favourite dish: The Avocado Toast with fresh roma tomatoes, chilli and a squeeze of lemon is the perfect combination of tasty and healthy.
Where to find them: 1/14 Allan Dr, Mallacoota VIC
