Dive Into NSW: Our Favourite 5 Ocean Pools

We love an ocean pool and there isn’t a state that does them quite like NSW. Here are five of our favourites.

We love an ocean pool and there isn’t a state that does them quite like NSW. What began as a humble additional service to the community has now become an iconic part of our coastline, and we think there’s nothing quite like going for a swim in one of these, combining all that the beautiful saltwater of the ocean has to offer with the containment of a pool. Here are our favourites in NSW (outside of Sydney).

  1. BERMAGUI BLUE POOL: BERMAGUI
One of the most iconic ocean pools in Australia, the Blue Pool is named and visited for its stunning sapphire colour and is one of the top tourist destinations on the Sapphire Coast. No mean feat in a coastal area known for its stunning water.

  2. OURIE OCEAN POOL: GERRINGONG
Set against the backdrop of Gerringong's dramatic cliffs and rolling green hills, this is a pool that is as impressive to view from above as it is to swim in. The perfect place for a relaxing swim away from surf, or simply to capture that next insta shot.

  3. THE BOGEY HOLE: NEWCASTLE
Etched out of natural rock by convict labour in the early 19th century, this is a pool with a sense of history about it. Thought to be the oldest surviving European construction in the city area, this heritage-listed beauty is not to be missed.

  4. COALCLIFF POOL: COALCLIFF
This 25m pool is as good a place for laps as is to simply unwind and take in one of the best views of the Illawarra Escarpment going around. For all the families, this has the bonus of a shallow toddler play area making it a great place to bring the kids.

  5. YAMBA OCEAN POOL: YAMBA
With an iconic location at the southern end of the Yamba main beach and overlooked by a 112-year-old surf life-saving club, this is a pool you dive into and feel the magic around. When the swell gets going, it makes for a particularly dramatic view as waves crash over into the pool.
