Eating & Drinking

Cooking is easy at the park, with a well-equipped Camp Kitchen, BBQs, and a small kiosk for essentials. We found it handy to pull together breakfasts and casual dinners without leaving the grounds, especially after a day exploring the wineries.

A coffee run saw us hunt down what we believe to be the best spot in town, Outside the Square Cafe. You can’t miss the bright red exterior. Inside, you’ll enjoy great coffee and a range of fresh breakfast options.

When it comes to dinner, The Barn Restaurant at Blue Wren Farm was a highlight. It has that perfect mix of country charm and modern polish, serving generous portions of locally inspired dishes. Their menu is seasonal so you’ll enjoy simple, high quality ingredients paired with a range of local wines. We particularly enjoyed the chargrilled lamb tenderloin with smoked eggplant, plus ate a few too many of their delicious small plates. They also offer a Set Menu which is highly revered in the region. Bookings are highly recommended, especially on weekends.

For something more casual, we headed to Mudgee Brewing Co, set inside a converted historic wool store. The atmosphere is laid-back, with live music often on the go, and the craft beers are brewed on site. Pair a paddle of their beers with a wood-fired pizza or burger and you’ve got yourself a proper night out, Mudgee style.

To Do List

You can easily soak up a day or two simply relaxing at the Park, enjoying the pool, playground and BBQ area. There’s also a games room to enjoy a game of billiards or table tennis if you’re after some down time.

Whilst in one of Australia’s best wine regions, we took the time to enjoy a few tastings. Our favourites were Lowe Family Wine Co for its organic and sustainably produced wines with vineyard views, and Robert Stein Winery not only for its Riesling but also the motorcycle museum on site. If you’re chasing a relaxed long lunch, Logan Wines is a must with its striking glass-walled tasting room overlooking the valley.

Just 25 minutes away, Gulgong is a former gold rush town that feels like stepping into a living museum. Cobbled streets, 19th-century buildings, and the excellent Gulgong Pioneers Museum makes for a rewarding half-day trip.

We wrapped up our day with a visit to the Mudgee Observatory, a short drive from town. You’ll find telescopes, astronomy displays, and the chance to see the southern sky in incredible detail, a standout for both kids and adults. Bookings are essential.

Heads Up

It’s easy to overlook, but the Games Room has become a bit of a saviour on rainy afternoons. Perfect if you’ve got kids to entertain or just want a change of pace after a day of wine touring.

Pet Friendly

Dogs are permitted on all campsites and in designated pet-friendly cabins.
