Your guide to this area
Eating & Drinking
At the park there's got a convenient camp kitchen with BBQs and shared seating, plus an on-site kiosk stocking basic groceries, ice and snacks - perfect if you feel like cooking or staying in for dinner. Maybe you’ll be cooking up your prized catch from the day’s fishing?
For your morning brew and breakfast, head to Capella’s, a cafe just a few minutes’ drive from the park in Moonta’s town centre. Nook & Nourish (also in Moonta) is also a great option, especially if you’re vegetarian or gluten-free. We highly recommend the Benny Bagel - it's what it sounds like, Eggs Benedict in a delicious bagel.
When lunchtime comes around, sometimes a Fish & Chip Box or Burger Pack hits the spot like nothing else can. Port Hughes General Store, at the base of the jetty has you covered.
For dinner, the Port Hughes Tavern is your local go-to. Overlooking the jetty, it serves classic pub fare and Modern Australian dishes - think stone‑grill seafood, steak, burgers and local beer/wine. With a beer garden, sports bar vibes and pet‑friendly outdoor seating, it’s a relaxed spot to unwind at sunset. If you’re not in the mood for pub food, The Indian Grill in Moonta offers up a refreshing variation of curries and traditional Indian cuisine, all prepared from scratch by this family-run restaurant.
To Do List
Head out the front of the Park straight to the foreshore for safe swimming or a sunrise walk along the jetty. It’s some of the best jetty-fishing in South Australia, so be sure to pack your fishing rod. If you’re bringing a boat, there’s a public ramp just next door to the park. The region is famous for crabs, garfish, squid and tommy ruff. If fishing isn’t your thing, you could also launch a kayak or paddle-board and explore the waters of the Spencer Gulf.
Back on land, aside from various fun to be had at the park (mini-golf, pedal karts, pump track, jumping pillow, playground, etc), you could also tee off at Coppeclub, a 9-hole public golf course designed by Greg "The Shark" Norman.
The nearby towns of Kadina, Wallaroo and Moonta are all worth exploring in their own right. The region was made famous for its copper mining and the Moonta Mines National Heritage Site, details the livelihood of the colonial miners and their local customs. You can’t leave the region without sampling a famous Cornish Pasty from the Cornish Kitchen Moonta Bakery.
Heads Up
Please note, the Park is split into two sections each with close access to amenities. Both have uninterrupted access to the beach but we’ve labelled the accommodation and sites on the jetty side ‘foreshore’ to avoid confusion.
Pet Friendly
Dogs are welcome year-round on all Sites and in selected Cabins. Let the Park know after booking if you’re bringing your furry friends.
