Eat & Drink
Head out of the park and turn left up Grampians Rd. and you’re immediately in the thick of the town of Halls Gap which has plenty of options when it comes to eating and drinking. Our favourite is Halls Gap Bakery, a classic country bakery that also does decent quality coffee. You can’t go past one of their pies! Almost directly across the road from your accommodation you’ll find Paper Scissors Rock Brew Co., a local craft brewery and brewpub. You’ll be able to sample one of eight beers on tap, all brewed on site, as well as a range of other beverages from producers in the region. There’s a range of food available that goes great with a few beers, we were particularly impressed with the Slow Braised Pulled Lamb Shoulder Roll on our last visit.
To Do List
The Halls Gap Zoo is roughly ten minutes drive away and a must-visit. It’s Victoria's largest regional zoo exhibiting over 160 native and exotic mammals. We highly recommend getting a ticket to the Meerkat Experience, you’ll get up close and personal with these extremely cute animals and get the chance to feed them. They’re very tame and will climb all over you! The Grampians region is synonymous with hikes & walks, and there’s lots of options depending on your fitness level and desire to get out into nature. The Balconies trail is a favourite of ours, a 2km return track where you’ll take in stunning views across the region.. Note that whilst it is shorter there are several stairs and slopes along the track. For a longer walk, The Pinnacle is a winding path which runs 9.6km return and will likely take you around 5 hours.
Heads Up
You’ll find friendly kangaroos roaming the park grounds daily which is an amazing part of the experience here, but do be careful if you’re bringing a dog who gets easily stirred up by other animals.
