Eat & Drink

Two Birds Cafe is our go to spot for a cup of coffee and perhaps something to eat. They have a light menu mainly made up of toasties and wraps and also often stock delicious sweet treats from nearby Coonabarabran Bakery. The Terminus Hotel is a classic country pub and a great spot for a drink or a meal any day of the week. 7 days a week they serve up a menu of bistro classics, and from Wednesday to Sunday there are some other additions to the menu of main courses. Last time we visited we had some incredible lamb cutlets. Within the park itself there’s a newly renovated Camp Kitchen which is a great spot for cooking up a feast. We love picking up some produce from local butcher Joe’s Quality Meats and sparking up the BBQ.

To Do List

We love the serenity of this area and one of our favourite things to do is to take a walk along the Castlereagh River (the park is located right on it) and enjoy the classic Australian bush scenery. Art fans are in for a treat and can take in part of Australia’s growing silo art movement with a mural painted on the 25 metre high Coonamble Water Tower. The Outback Arts Gallery is also well worth a visit showcasing a range of art from the surrounding regions including some fantastic indigenous art. Roughly one hour drive from Coonamble and potentially on your journey in or out of town depending on where you’re coming from, you’ll find the Pilliga Artesian Bore Baths. These thermal baths allow people to soak in naturally heated, mineral-rich waters, providing a rejuvenating experience and linking to the healing properties many associate with artesian waters. If you happen to be visiting over the June long weekend don’t miss the Coonamble Rodeo & Campdraft, the largest event of its kind in the southern hemisphere.

Heads Up

Coonamble can get particularly warm in the summer months with heat waves bringing consistent days of high 30s temperatures.
