Your guide to this area
Eating & Drinking
An easy 5-minute walk from the park and you’ll find the Forrest General Store & Cafe. It’s a great place to enjoy a morning coffee or a snack to eat throughout the day, with warm country hospitality and of course a great range of delicious pies and pastries. Outside of food to enjoy at the General Store, there’s a great range of gourmet produce and provisions that will more than likely have everything you need to cook up a storm back at your accommodation.
The local pub is the Terminus Hotel and also located just a short walk away. It’s a classic country pub and serves up consistent pub grub, the Lamb Shanks are always a favourite particularly in the cooler months of the year. If you can’t find additional supplies or provisions you need in the local shops or you’re just after some more cafes, bars and restaurants you’ll be best to make the 25 minute drive to Colac or the 40 minute drive to Lorne.
To Do List
Forrest is famous for its extensive mountain bike trails, which are often a major drawcard for visitors to the area. There are trails suitable for all skill levels, if you’re new to mountain biking we recommend the beginner-friendly Barlidjaru Trail.
Lake Elizabeth is a short drive away, it’s still waters surrounded by tall eucalypt trees are bring a strong sense of peacefulness and connection with nature. If you happen to visit early in the morning or at dusk you may be lucky enough to spot a platypus. If you're keen to explore it via canoe, you an do so with the team at Otway Eco Tours.
There are several great hikes and walks in the broader region, and the closest and most convenient is the Tiger Rail Trail, an 8.7-km out-and-back trail which starts from almost directly outside the Holiday Park. The trail is flat and suitable for all ages, it’s highlighted by a range of birdlife throughout and an interesting old wooden bridge still with it’s original pylons which you’ll spot early on in your journey.
Heads Up
Whilst it has a small general store, Forrest is a quiet spot. We recommend coming well prepared with your own provisions.
