Eating & Drinking

The park provides excellent communal spaces like the Camp Kitchen and BBQ areas, which are ideal for a casual cookout after a day of exploring. For a morning caffeine fix, we recommend making your way to Scroggin Coffee and Eatery; the mountain-hut/Scandinavian decor is a great fit-out, and the specialty espresso is top-tier. If you are in a rush to hit the trails, Fedeli is our favourite nearby spot for a quick but high-quality deli bite and a reliable flat white.

For a casual meal on the lakefront, Big Fig is a local institution serving delicious Middle Eastern-inspired "slow food fast." If you are after a more refined dining experience, Kika offers an award-winning seasonal menu that is perfect for sharing.

For a post-adventure drink, we usually head to Kai Whakapai, which is arguably the best corner in town for a craft beer and people-watching. If you prefer a more intimate setting, Cork Bar is a fantastic choice for sampling Central Otago’s famous wines in the heart of the village.

To Do List

Keeping everyone active is easy with the on-site Jumping Pillow and Playground, while the E-Bike Hire is a great way to explore the scenic Millennium Track along the lake edge. We find the Bike and Luggage Storage incredibly useful for keeping gear secure, especially if you are visiting for the winter ski season or bringing mountain bikes. Being just blocks from the town centre, you can easily explore the local shops and galleries without needing to move the car.

Wānaka is a world-class gateway to the Southern Alps, with the iconic Roys Peak track providing some of the best views in the country. For something a little closer to base, a sunset walk to “That Wanaka Tree” is a must, while the winter months put you within easy reach of the slopes at Cardrona and Treble Cone. If you are looking for a break from the outdoors, we suggest a visit to the quirky and challenging Puzzling World, which is located just a short drive from the park.

Heads Up

Because Wānaka is a popular destination year-round, the most sought-after restaurants like Kika or Francesca’s fill up very quickly; we recommend booking your dinner table a few days in advance to ensure you don't miss out.
