Eating & Drinking

One of the real joys of staying at Kryal Castle is that you don’t need to go far for a memorable meal. The food on offer is in lockstep with the castle’s immersive atmosphere. There are two restaurants/cafes on site. Stop in for lunch at the Alehouse, which feels like stepping into a medieval tavern. Pies, sausage rolls and hot chips are available as staples but there’s plenty of gluten free, vegetarian, vegan and halal choices.

For a more refined dinner experience, The Abbey Tavern hosts night events amongst a medieval feast. The high ceilings and medieval décor are impressive, a true banquet hall. Just check the schedule and be sure to book in advance. We attended an evening where we enjoyed a three-course meal accompanied by live entertainment, including performances by costumed actors. The menu included hearty dishes reminiscent of traditional medieval fare, such as roast beef and seasonal vegetables.

If you've got a sweet tooth, make sure to swing by the Lolly Shop. It is packed with old-school favourites and colourful sweets. Be warned - it’s one of those spots the kids won’t want to leave (and honestly, neither did I).

Back in the accommodation precinct, the camp kitchen and BBQ area are clean, equipped with plenty of bench space, and undercover seating that makes it easy to settle in after a day of exploring the castle. The kids can run around pretending to be knights whilst the adults prepare a low-key cook-up.

To Do List

Kryal Castle is open every weekend, selected public holidays and every day during the Victorian School Holidays. You will not get anywhere else in Australia like this place. You step through the gates and the outside world is forgotten. The sheer detail makes it worth staying on site because you’ll get exclusive early access before any of the day visitors arrive.

The daily program of entertainment is where the castle comes alive with the centrepiece being the jousting tournament (knights in full armour charging at each other on horseback in a large arena).

There’s so much for all ages. Sign up for Knight School and learn the techniques of sword fighting. Walk through the Torture Dungeon and Museum where the cruelty of medieval times is on full display. Keen to test yourself? Axe throwing and archery are both great options for older kids and teens. For the younger children, there’s the delightful dragon garden and dragon’s labyrinth cottages as well as Potion Making (bookings essential).

Outside of the Castle Adventure Park hours, the Dragon Playground is available for guests at all times throughout their stay.

Heads Up

The Kryal Castle Adventure Park is open from 10am to 4pm on weekends and during Victorian school holidays. If you’re staying in one of the Castle Suites, Cabins, or Tiny Homes, park entry is included for every day of your stay - no need to book separately.

If you're staying on a Holiday Park Powered Site, entry isn’t included by default - but you can easily upgrade at reception for just $25 per adult and $15 per child.
