Eating & Drinking

At the Park we usually make the most of the park’s own facilities: evenings around the BBQs with something fresh from the Tuesday or Saturday Market - there’s a fully-equipped camp kitchen. That said, nothing beats wandering into town for a proper feed or a good coffee.

For a morning coffee, the best spot to fuel up at is Blue Heron Cafe. Overlooking the Riverside Park, this place has that easygoing South Coast vibe and great brews. On a sunny morning, grab a bench, a strong coffee with a bacon and egg roll and enjoy the river views.

For something a bit more elevated, we recommend The River Moruya. The setting by the water alone is worth it, but the modern Australian menu with a french twist really makes it feel special. We've had dishes using super fresh local seafood and beautifully presented sides. The wine list and cocktails are carefully curated, so it works well whether for a dinner treat or a long lunch with friends.

If I’m after something casual and quick in the evening, The Black Olive Pizza is always a winner. Located at Vulcan Street, their pizzas are generous in size and solid value-for-money. It’s great for takeaway after a long day exploring or being out on the river.

To Do List

One of the best things about basing yourself at Moruya Holiday Park is that you’re never short of ways to fill the day. I like to start with the simple pleasures close by — walking the riverside paths that run from the park, or casting a line off the bank. Fishing here is excellent, with bream, flathead and whiting all common, and if you’ve brought a kayak you can paddle straight out onto the Moruya River.

If you’re more of a hiker, there are plenty of trails within an easy drive. The Eurobodalla National Park is the closest, with coastal tracks that wind through forest and dunes before spitting you out onto beaches where you might not see another soul. South Head walking trail is a favourite of ours for its combination of bush and ocean views.

For a bigger adventure, you can book a trip out to Montague Island, just off Narooma (about 40 minutes south). It’s famous for its wildlife — expect to see fur seals lazing on the rocks and dolphins riding the bow wave on the way over. The island’s lighthouse is a slice of history, and if you’re lucky enough to go during whale season, the boat trip out there is unforgettable.

Heads Up

The SAGE Farmers Market is held right across at Riverside Park every Tuesday afternoon. It’s an easy walk from the park and you can stock up on fresh bread, local oysters, and seasonal fruit for dinner that night.
