Eat & Drink
We’re huge fans of a great country bakery, and the Halls Gap Bakery ranks high on our list of favourites. There’s something for both sweet tooths and those who prefer their baked goods to be savoury. Our two picks - an Apple Scroll or a Steak and Pepper Pie. There’s several great wineries in the region and one of our favourites is Pomonal Estate which is just 15-minutes drive away. They’re open for lunch from Wednesday to Sunday and you can choose between the casual sharing focus menu or go for a grazing platter. There’s of course a Cellar Door which offers tastings including a unique Chocolate & Wine paired tasting, showcasing artisan chocolates from Halls Gap chocolatier Kerrie’s Kreations. For a counter meal we will often visit the Halls Gap Hotel, located on the edge of town. The deck is a great place for a drink and/or a meal overlooking rolling mountain ranges particularly in the warmer months. In the cooler months, you’ll find us inside by the open fire.
To Do List
This region is famous for its various hikes & walks which offer the chance to explore nature and take in some incredible views. For a shorter walk (roughly 45 minutes), go for The Balconies trail, a 2km return track where you’ll enjoy stunning views over the stunning views over the entire Victoria Valley, Lake Wartook, Mt Difficult Range and Victoria Range from the top. Note that whilst it is shorter there are several stairs and slopes along the track. For a longer walk, The Pinnacle is a winding path which runs 9.6km return and will likely take you around 5 hours. At the peak, you’ll enjoy what we think is the best view of any trail around here, sweeping across Halls Gap and the Fyans Valley. The Halls Gap Zoo is well worth a visit, it is Victoria's largest regional zoo exhibiting over 160 native and exotic mammals.
Heads Up
There is a wide variety of Cabin & Villa options available, with 14 different room types to choose from. If you are wanting this type of accommodation, make sure to take the time to browse them all and choose what best suits you.
