Pippa’s Bakehouse is the top of our go-to list, equally great for a morning coffee as it is a homemade pie at lunch (or any time of the day!) or one of their delicious Turkish rolls. If you are going for a pie, don’t be scared to go for something that may sound a bit unusual, the team is always experimenting with recipes and I guarantee whatever they’re serving will be delicious.
New Rush Brewhouse is an interesting concept that serves up a range of craft beers to go alongside a food menu focused on sharing, tapas-style dishes as well as some delicious pizzas. Their opening hours can vary so be sure to either check their instagram or give them a call before visiting.
If your preference is to cook on site, the park is a Camp Kitchen and several barbecues which will more than do the job.
The park serves as a great base for the snow fields during the ski season, with Mount Hotham located roughly 45 minutes drive away. Adrenaline pumping activities don’t end there, in the warmer months the high country area is extremely popular with mountain bike riders, there’s several great trails nearby.
There’s several interesting walking trails in the area and our favourites are located in the Oriental Claims Historic Area, named after the company that worked this area that was the highest production alluvial goldfield in Australia from 1876 to 1904.
The Omeo Justice Precinct is a must-visit for any history buffs. This heritage-listed collection of structures is a walk back in time and is the most intact example of a nineteenth century police and court complex known to survive in Victoria.
It gets particularly cold here in the winter months so if you’re travelling then, be sure to pack plenty of warm clothes.
