Eat & Drink
The Park is in a remote location, so we highly recommend bringing your own provisions and making the most of the on site facilities. Cabins are well appointed, all with kitchenettes, or if you’re wanting to use communal facilities there’s a Camp Kitchen and BBQ area available. If you have forgotten something, there is a limited number of groceries available from the reception kiosk. If you’re wanting to venture out, roughly a 30 minute drive away in the town of Bookham you’ll find Barney’s Cafe which serves up coffee and a simple menu of food that is anchored around sandwiches and takeaway type options. Slightly further afield from Bookham (another 5 minutes drive) you’ll find the Bowning Hotel, the closest pub to the park. It’s a classic country pub, the sort of place you walk into and instantly feel comfortable. It’s a pub with a strong sense of history having been established in the 1870s, it’s believed poets Henry Lawson and Banjo Paterson used to drink here. Currently, the bistro is closed, but it’s still a great spot for a drink.
To Do List
With your accommodation perched over a dam, there’s plenty of options for fun out on the water and several ramps and jetties to launch your vessel of choice. Boats, kayaks, SUPs and jet skis have all been spotted out on these vast waters at one time or another. The protected, flat waters make it a particularly good spot for water skiing and wakeboarding. There’s plenty of fishing to be had out on the dam where you’ll (hopefully) bring back some Murray cod, Golden perch or silver perch to cook for dinner. You can of course swim in the dam, but make sure to avoid the spots where people are launching boats from. Kids will have plenty of fun within the Park itself, with a tennis court, volleyball court, frisbee golf course and playground all available. Part of the famed Hume & Hovell Track weaves through the Burrinjuck Waters State Park (where the Holiday Park is located). This is a great out-and-back hike on a single track with only gentle hills.
Heads Up
We recommend coming well stocked with your own provisions, the Park has a kiosk that has a limited number of grocery items for sale and the nearest supermarket is in Yass, 45 minutes drive away.
