Eating & Drinking

The best local hospitality options are a short drive away in the townships of Tawonga South and Mount Beauty, an easy 5 minute drive away by car. The best coffee in Tawonga can be found at Lilli Pilli Day Larder Cafe, they also offer a range of baked treats and recently have opened up on Thursday evenings serving a range of Vietnamese street food.

For something a bit different, roughly 15 minutes drive away you’ll find AnnaPurna Estate, a winery with Cellar Door and Italian restaurant open Friday through Sunday. It’s a popular venue for private functions so be sure to call ahead and check if they are open when you want to visit. Back at the park, there’s a well maintained Camp Kitchen area with seating as well as BBQs and a Kiosk at reception for any last minute supply needs.

To Do List

If you’re here during the snow season no doubt a visit to one of the many mountains and ski fields nearby will be high on your list. Falls Creek is the closest (and our favourite), you’ll be able to get there by car in less than an hour.

A short drive away and likely one you will pass on your way in or way out is Mount Bogong Lookout, located under 3km up the road on the Kiewa Valley Highway. Here you’ll enjoy uninterrupted views over the Kiewa Valley across to Mount Bogong, on a clear day it is particularly spectacular.

River fishing is always popular in these parts thanks to the chance to catch some of the largest trout you’ll find in Australia. At the picnic ground next to Ryder’s Bridge you’ll find the access point to Fisherman’s Walk which will take you down to the best local spot for both trout and redfin.

Heads Up

Unsurprisingly given its high country location this is a location with a cooler climate. Most visitors come expecting this in the winter months but are often surprised how cool it can also get in summer - be sure to bring a jumper regardless of when you visit.
