Turtle Sands - Turtle Protection Promise
Guiding guests to stay the responsible way
Turtle Sands is located beside a globally significant turtle nesting ground.
These turtles are endangered or at risk, and their activities can be disturbed by human presence, lights and noise.
We recognise how privileged we are to act as caretakers of this land, as are our visitors who share and stay on this site.
We take our responsibility to help care, protect and conserve these species and their habitat very seriously.
And we ask that our guests do the same.
By agreeing to the Turtle Protection Promise you’ll not only have an unforgettable stay, but you can ensure that your visit to their home does not harm or interfere.
How to stay respectfully
Cut the glow
Light adversely affects a turtle’s ability to navigate to and from the beach.
From 7:30pm
- Switch off unnecessary lights
- Close curtains and blinds
- Outdoor lighting will be activated via motion sensors
- Positioning lights to face away from beach
- Use a small / low light torch and direct glow away from beach
- Avoid driving – use the lowest light setting if you must, and never shine headlights towards the beach
Keep it down
Noise can distract and scare turtles
- No loud music and guest noise after 7:30pm
Keep clear
Your presence can disturb and distress turtles
- Mon Repos Beach is closed from 6:00pm to 6:00am
- Never get closer than 5 meters from turtles
Tread carefully
- Be careful where you walk, play and set up on the beach
- Watch out for hidden eggs: When using the beach, patrons must not place umbrellas or cabana poles in the sand
- Do not create obstacles: Any sandcastles should be flattened, and holes filled at the end of each day
- Waste fishing hook and line should be disposed of in designated bins
