Where To Stay In Narooma
Surf Beach Holiday Park has a beautiful location right on (you guessed it) Narooma Surf Beach. Both Powered and Unpowered Sites are grassed, and there are options for both to be right on the edge of the park and enjoy uninterrupted views over the ocean. There are multiple cabin options available from one to three bedrooms and sleeping up to eight people. We particularly like the two bedroom “Ace Cabins” which are elevated in their design and boast decks with views out over Montague Island. Facilities wise there’s BBQ Facilities, clean amenities blocks and a playground for the kids. Whilst there’s no pool here, you do get direct beach access.
Where To Eat & Drink In Narooma
Get your day started with the best coffee in town and breakfast at Salt Of The Coast. Owned and run by locals Imogen and Caroline, this cafe is located looking out over the marina and dedicated to serving up great quality food using local produce. We like to work up an appetite with a morning walk and then order their Big Breakfast, a delicious combination of fried egg, bacon, smoked salmon, avocado, mushroom, Persian feta, tomato and homemade tomato relish and chilli oil (made by Imogen). Whilst not a traditional pub, The Whale Inn is home to Queen Chow, an Asian restaurant recently developed by the famed Merivale group (who also own this Holiday Park). Here the team is focused on turning incredibly fresh Australian produce into Cantonese Classics. The honey-glazed char siu pork is so good you’ll be thinking about making a reservation to return the next day just to eat it again.
What To Do In Narooma
With beautiful beaches and nature abound, this is a place to spend time outdoors. Our favourite activity is to get over to nearby Montague Island and snorkel around the Australian fur seals. If you’re after a general day out at the beach, Narooma Main Beach is a well patrolled surf beach with plenty of space. For golfers, Narooma is a great spot and our favourite holiday park (Surf Beach Holiday Park) is actually located surrounded by the local Golf Course on multiple sides and the coast on other sides. Narooma Golf Club consistently ranks highly in various lists of Public Access Golf Courses in Australia, including being #1 in NSW. We love hiring a boat from Mal’s BBQ Boats, taking on some fresh seafood from one of the many distributors located on the lake near the bridge and enjoying a day out on the water.
The Essentials
This is a well stocked town with multiple supermarkets and pharmacies. If you’re after camping or caravan gear there isn’t a specific store, but Compleat Angler is a fishing shop on Graham St. in the central town area that does stock some supplies.
The Drive
As always, we give you the rundown on the drive you’ll take from the three closest capital cities.
From Canberra - At 218 km this is an easy drive through the hinterland and is rarely interrupted by any traffic issues .
From Sydney - Straight down the coast for 349 km and you’ll arrive from Sydney. If you’re keen to stop on the way we highly recommend the Jervis Bay area which is approximately half way.
From Melbourne - Through Gippsland and then straight along the coast, this 688 km trip will definitely need a stop or two. In order of closest to Melbourne to closest to Narooma, our picks would be Lakes Entrance, Mallacoota or Eden.
