Where To Stay In Tuross Head
Tuross Beach Cabins & Campsites is ideally located on the picturesque Tuross Beach and has a range of cabin options as well as larger-than-usual 65 square metre Sites. All Powered Sites are level and many are in absolute beachfront locations offering unobstructed ocean views of Montague Island, the beach, inlet and Tuross Lake. This is an exceptionally well managed and well maintained park, with pristine grounds and spacious sites. With absolute frontage onto Tuross Beach, it’s a short walk to go for a dip in the ocean, but if you prefer, there is also a small pool on site.
Where To Eat & Drink In Tuross Head
Both of our favourite options for a bite are in the Tuross Lake area. The Pickled Octopus serves up authentic Thai food with a beautiful elevated view over the lake - go for the Mixed Seafood Curry, a delicious mix of ocean caught prawns, fish , calamari and NZ mussels in mild coconut curry sauce with green peppercorns, baby bok choi and kaffir lime leaves. The Tuross Boatshed & Cafe is a great spot for a quick meal at any time of the day and if you’d like, they also rent various gear out including kayaks and small boats to explore Lake Tuross.
What To Do In Tuross Head
This picturesque location with calm beaches is a great spot to pull up a chair or lay down a towel, read your book and relax. You’ll no doubt be keen to stretch the legs at some stage, and we recommend the stroll up to One Tree Point Lookout and Picnic Area. Here you’ll get a great view over the ocean where you can regularly spot dolphins, and from May to November during their migration season you'll likely also spot some whales. If you’ve brought your bikes with you the Tuross Lake Bike Path is a great spot to cruise along with the whole family and stop at the playgrounds along the way.
The Essentials
While there aren't an extensive number of shops here, you can pick up your grocery supplies from the “Friendly Grocer” and if needed there is a local pharmacy on Tuross Blvd. but note that it is not open on Sundays. For camping and caravan gear you’ll need to make the roughly 20 minute drive to nearby Moruya.
The Drive
As always, we give you the rundown on the drive you’ll take from the three closest capital cities.
From Canberra - At just 193 km from Canberra, this is a quick and easy drive that we find best to do in one hit.
From Sydney - At 324 km straight down the coast this is a drive that you can do in one day, but you’ll probably want to make a stop for something to eat, a coffee or just to stretch your legs. There’s a whole range of beautiful places you can choose to stop at, but we’d recommend the Jervis Bay area to take in the views of some of the most spectacular beaches in Australia.
From Melbourne - Through Gippsland and then straight along the coast, you’ll find yourself in Tuross Head after 716 km on the road so you’ll likely take an overnight stop along the way. If you’re going to do so, we recommend Victorian coastal towns of Lakes Entrance or Mallacoota.
