Eating & Drinking

You don’t have to wander far for a good meal — in fact, one of the South Coast’s best-kept secrets is right inside the park. Camel Rock Brewery, is the first Micro-Brewery and Bistro on the Sapphire Coast of NSW and the first Micro-Brewery & Bistro built in a Holiday Park in the world. This place is a genuine gem with a range of beers from crisp pales to rich porters and lots in between. Aside from the beers, there’s an elevated pub menu which is hearty and unfussy. The easy-going atmosphere is lifted even further on weekends where live music adds to the coastal holiday vibe.

For your morning coffee fix, make the quick ten-minute drive into Boneless Café in Bermagui. It’s a little off the main drag and feels exactly like the kind of coastal café locals want to keep secret — smooth espresso, a great breakfast menu and views of the harbour if you grab one of the outdoor tables. It’s the perfect start before a walk along the headland or a dip at Horseshoe Bay.

When lunchtime rolls around, Honorbread is an essential stop. A bakery and a Bermagui institution, the smell of fresh baked goods hits you as soon as you walk in. We grabbed sausage rolls and pies with a cinnamon scroll for a picnic by the lake — simple, fresh and ridiculously good.

For dinner, head to Bodega Mexican Kitchen. It’s a permanent food truck-style setup that brings a little heat to the coast, serving up authentic street-mex dishes. You’ll sit outside in the open yard and enjoy delicious tacos and burritos. Make sure you order a side of the chilli lime corn cobbettes.

Back at the park, you’ll find BBQs and a Camp Kitchen if you’d rather cook up your own feast, with plenty of shaded tables overlooking the lake for a relaxed night in.

To Do List

Days here tend to slip by easily. Within the park itself, there’s more than enough to keep everyone entertained — a dip in the pool after breakfast, a round of mini golf, or a paddle out on the lake with one of the kayaks for hire. If you’ve brought the boat, there’s a ramp on site and plenty of calm water to explore. Fishing at Wallaga Lake is a must for anyone who loves casting a line. The water’s known for bream, flathead and tailor, and the mornings are often glassy calm. Evenings are best spent around the fire pits or watching the sun drop behind the lake with a drink from Camel Rock Brewery in hand.

Just beyond the park, there’s a whole stretch of the Sapphire Coast waiting to explore. The heritage village of Tilba Tilba is about 20 minutes away and feels like stepping back in time — think local crafts, gardens, and country cafés nestled between the rolling green hills. It’s worth planning a slow morning here before looping back along the coastal drive.

If you’re chasing waves, head across the road to Camel Rock Surf Beach, an easy five-minute walk from the park. It’s a favourite with locals for its consistent surf and striking rock formations that jut dramatically out of the sea.

To round out your coastal adventures, make time for a swim at the Bermagui Blue Pool, a naturally formed ocean rock pool carved into the cliffs.

Heads Up

The wind often whips off the ocean during the afternoons, so mornings are best for kayaking or fishing on the lake.
