Eating & Drinking

This is a pretty remote spot, so we recommend bringing your own provisions and taking advantage of the on-site BBQ and Camp Kitchen areas. Additionally, there is a diner open daily from 10am to 2pm that serves up great pizzas, wraps, toasted sandwiches and pies plus some sweet treats. They will also open for dinner during busier times, so be sure to check ahead with reception.

Outside of the park, the closest sport for a meal or a drink is the town of Seaforth approximately 15 minutes drive away. Here you’ll find the Seaforth Bowls Club, a classic coastal bowlo with cold, well priced drinks and counter meals as well as the Seaforth Pitt Stop Classic Cafe which also doubles as a Post Office/General Store.

To Do List

The top of most visitors To Do List when visiting Cape Hillsborough is to take in the incredible scene that happens first thing in the morning, as the beach is lit up with the beautiful colours of the sun rising over the ocean and both Eastern Grey Kangaroos and Wallabies appear to feed before retreating into the shade of the National Park for the day.

When you’re keen for a swim, the pool within the park is a great option and has a fantastic waterslide that the kids will love. Of course the beach that you’re located is also great for a dip, but check ahead with staff within the Northern Queensland Stinger Season of October to April.

There’s plenty of flathead and bream to be found if fishing off the beach, or if you take a boat out you’ll have a great chance to catch some famous North Queensland barramundi. The island that can be seen from the beach here is Wedge Island, it’s accessible two hours either side of the low tide thanks to the sandy causeway that appears the causeway to the island becomes accessible. There’s a fantastic walking trail which will take you up to the top of the island to take in spectacular views across the coastline.

Heads Up

The kangaroos and wallabies that appear on the beach are running on no schedule except for their own. Though you’re most likely to find them at sunrise, be sure to chat to the friendly reception staff when you arrive to find out what time they’ve been appearing over recent days to give yourself the best chance to arrive in time to see them.
