Your guide to this area
Eating & Drinking
The park is located in a secluded spot on Wonga Beach, which means for the majority of food and beverage options you’ll need either make the 20 minute drive to the town of Mossman, or a 35 minute drive to the coastal tourist hub of Port Douglas where you’ll find everything you need.
Dukes in Mossman is our go-to spot for a morning coffee and one of their delicious donuts. For dining, Port Douglas offers great options, especially for seafood lovers. Tin Shed is a local favourite for sunset drinks, with a menu featuring fresh seafood and pub classics. Zinc is a great choice for a special occasion, offering fine dining without the hefty price tag, try the Barramundi Fillet. Salsa Bar & Restaurant is another must-visit for a long lunch or dinner.
For something closer-to-home, 1km up the road from the park you’ll find Hook-a-Barra, a Barramundi farm that offers fishing tours and also has a kitchen cooking up fish and chips at lunchtime each day. Within the park itself there’s a food truck offering up delicious tacos, turkish rolls and some larger dishes and beverages from Thursday to Monday. If you’re keen to cook onsite, there’s a large, clean Camp Kitchen, BBQ areas and plenty of seating space.
To Do List
This is an incredible location, wedged between the Daintree National Park and the Great Barrier Reef. A crocodile spotting tour through the Daintree is a must-do, and we highly recommend the team at Daintree River Cruises. Whilst you’re there, head out on one of the many trails through the rainforest and take in this tropical, green slice of paradise.
There are no shortage of companies running cruises out to the reef, with most departing from the nearby town of Port Douglas. We always recommended Calypso Reef Cruises, for their broad variety of options. There are half and full day tours for both the more advanced divers as well as those who just like to splash about snorkelling like us.
1km up the road from the park you’ll find Hook-A-Barra, a Barramundi farm which offers fishing experiences and a variety of educational tours (to go with the fish and chips we talked about before). If you’re after a more in-the-wild fishing experience, there are a wide variety of charters available - we recommend heading down the Port Douglas Marina and browsing the various companies set up there and seeing what appeals.
Heads Up
Part of the charm of this property is its secluded location but it does mean that there are limited food and beverage options within walking distance.
