Eating & Drinking

The mix of beachfront beauty, tropical climate and laid-back luxury has attracted some seriously talented chefs over the years, and the result is a dining scene that punches well above its weight for a village of this size.

If you’re keeping things simple, the park makes self-catering easy. There are BBQs and a Camp Kitchen on site, ideal for relaxed breakfasts or easy dinners after a day out exploring. It’s the kind of setup that suits barefoot cooking, cold drinks and slow evenings under the palms.

For your morning coffee, Palm Cove delivers. Espresso and Co quickly became our go-to, especially after a morning walk along the esplanade. Sitting outside with a coffee, looking straight out over the water, feels like a pretty perfect way to start the day. We also loved Garage Palm Cove, a little more energetic in vibe but equally reliable for a good brew and something tasty if you’re feeling hungry.

When it comes to dining out, you’re spoilt for choice. Vivo is a standout for Modern Australian dining in a relaxed beachfront setting. The menu is polished but approachable, and the tempura zucchini flowers were an easy favourite. It’s a great option when you want something a little special without feeling overly formal.

If you’re craving Mediterranean flavours, El Greko is hard to beat. This classic Greek grill does seafood particularly well, and if you’re an octopus fan, this is the place to order it. Sitting down here really does feel like being transported somewhere along the Aegean.

For a true highlight, book a table at Nu Nu. Founded in 2004, it has long been one of the region’s most celebrated restaurants, known for its commitment to local produce and refined, thoughtful cooking. The menu changes regularly, but the quality is consistently excellent and surprisingly good value for the level of care that goes into each dish. We still think about the lamb cutlets with pickled eggplant, and if you’re visiting for a special occasion, this is the place to do it.

To Do List

Staying in Palm Cove puts you in one of the best positions in Tropical North Queensland to explore both reef and rainforest, often in the same day.

For reef adventures, day trips to Green Island and Fitzroy Island are local favourites and easy to organise as guided boat tours. Both offer that postcard-perfect mix of coral reefs, clear water and relaxed island time, whether you’re snorkelling straight off the beach or simply soaking up the sun.

If you’re up for a scenic drive, head north and cross the Daintree River by car ferry to reach Cape Tribulation. This world heritage listed region is where ancient rainforest meets the Coral Sea, creating a beautifully quiet and untouched landscape.

You don’t need to go far to enjoy the beach though. Palm Cove’s tree lined foreshore has been awarded the title of the cleanest beach in Far North Queensland, and with white sand and calm, clear water right at your doorstep, it’s easy to spend entire days here. Swimming, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding are all popular, and if you need gear, Beach Fun Co sits mid-way along the beach. They offer everything from jet ski and catamaran tours through to kayak, paddle board, fishing gear and sun lounge hire.

Fishing is another highlight in Palm Cove, with the narrow channel between Double Island and the mainland acting as a natural pathway for fish migrating from cooler southern waters.

For a change of pace, plan a trip up into the rainforest to Kuranda Village. Perched over 1,000 feet above Cairns and surrounded by lush rainforest, Kuranda is small but packed with character. You can float above the treetops on the Skyrail, ride the iconic Kuranda Scenic Railway, browse the arts and crafts markets, or visit one of the local wildlife attractions.

Heads Up

This park is popular year round thanks to its prime beachfront location, and peak periods fill quickly. If you’re travelling during school holidays or dry season, booking both your site and key tours early is essential.
