Nothing says ‘road trip’ quite like a stop at one of the may incredible bakeries you can find in regional Australia. From your classic country bakery that has served locals for decades through to the more modern artisanal type bakers, the South Coast of NSW has plenty to offer. Here are our four favourites.
1. WILD RYE’S BAKERY: PAMBULA
Why we love them: This artisan baker serves up amazing fresh bread, baked classics (one of the best croissants we have had) as well as some more innovative sweet and savoury treats taking inspiration from around the world. This is far from your standard Aussie country bakery. As an added bonus, you’ll also find some of the best coffee in the area here thanks to their other business, Wild Rye’s Roastery.
Our favourite dish: The Cheese and Vegemite ‘Escargot’ is an elevated take on the classic Aussie scroll.

2. HONORBREAD: BERMAGUI
Why we love them: For frequent readers here at ParkBooker, you’ll know that we are potentially Honorbread’s biggest fans! We love their attitude to cooking, delicious range of interesting baked goods and incredible breads that extend well past the ‘normal’ offering, and are backed up by great coffee and warm hospitality in a lovely courtyard setting.
Our favourite dish: Too many to count, but right now we’re dreaming of the delicious Cinnamon Morning Bun, a sweet scroll covered in cinnamon and with plenty of orange flavour through it.

3. HERITAGE BAKERY: MILTON
Why we love them: A classic country bakery with some of the best pies going around. A great spot to stop and pick up takeaway or dine in with plenty of seats - we love to do this and treat ourselves to a delicious ice cream (also served at the bakery) from Bodalla Ice Cream after our meal.
Our favourite dish: The classic steak pie is hard to go past.

4. BODALLA BAKERY: BODALLA
Why we love them: A quaint and charming spot that is known for their cakes, you can feel a great sense of community at this local venue run by husband and wife team Dave and Sharan Callender.
Our favourite dish: The classic scones with jam, cream and strawberries.
