With its rolling hills, cool climate and wide range of established vineyards, Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula produces some of Australia’s most exceptional wine. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the mainstays of this region (for good reason), but this is an area where there is truly something for everyone. We spotlight four must-visit wineries that showcase the variety of experiences on offer in this beautiful region.

1. PROVENANCE WINES: FYANSFORD

Located within a historic 1870s bluestone building with cavernous cathedral ceilings, wine barrel-lined walls, and polished concrete flooring, Provenance is a space you walk into and immediately notice the wow factor. Serving a seasonal multi-course menu with the opportunity to pair wines, Provenance is our pick when we want to splash out. At our last visit, the highlight was a glazed pork scotch with burnt apple, confit onion & sage crumb paired with their 2018 Pinot Noir - an otherworldly combination! Be sure to book ahead at this always popular spot.

2. JACK RABBIT: BELLARINE

Boasting an unbeatable view of Corio Bay and known for its innovative approach to hospitality, we love returning to Jack Rabbit as there is always something new to experience. Most recently, we’ve been loving the “Z Blade” incorporated into their wine tasting - a Z-shaped holder with 5 glass tubes of different wines that you can take back to your table and enjoy in your own time. If you’re after a fine dining experience, Jack Rabbit Restaurant is your go-to, but for something more casual The House of Jack Rabbit is also fantastic.

3. OAKDENE: BELLARINE

Our pick for wine tastings, we love Oakdene for its quirky charm and brilliant wines. The Cellar Door is in a unique “Upside Down House” and is open 7 days from 10 am to 4 pm. The team working there is full of knowledge and always willing to help you find the right wine for your budget and palate. Tastings are $10 but if you purchase two or more bottles of wine this is redeemable as a discount.

4. BASILS FARM: SWAN BAY

A relaxed setting surrounded by nature with an approachable menu focusing on produce from their working Farm, Basils is our pick when we’re looking for a more relaxed vibe. Kids are welcome and will have a fantastic time exploring the expansive outdoor spaces in the property and are well catered for with a Kids Menu. Visiting from October to March? Make sure you get down on a Sunday to also enjoy some acoustic music from up-and-coming local talent. A bonus for those travelling with their furry friends, well-behaved dogs are welcome (on Garden Tables only) so long as they’re on a leash.
