Eating & Drinking

The Park is around 15 minutes drive from Grafton so most people rely on self-catering for at least some of their stay. There’s a spacious camp kitchen and a kiosk onsite where you can buy all the essentials.

When you’re ready to head into town, start your morning right with a proper cup of coffee. The town boasts a surprisingly strong cafe scene and our go-to is Toast Espresso on Prince Street. It’s a family-run cafe popular with locals for its freshly baked muffins and bacon and egg rolls. The classics like smashed avocado on toast and bircher muesli are also on the menu.

You won't need to wander far to find our lunch spot, Our Place Bread and Coffee. Locals pour in here daily to grab a load of their famous sourdough (great for making sandwiches back at the Park. They have a cabinet of pre-made sandwiches too for those on the go. I challenge you to exit this place without buying a pastry of some kind. They basically stare at you begging to be eaten as you attempt to escape with just a loaf of bread.

By dinner time, if you’re not cooking and want to head somewhere easy, yet bankable - The Clocktower Hotel is a great choice for a satisfying pub-style meal in the heart of Grafton. It has retained that country-style pub vibe and they have a solid range of all the pub classics (schnitzels, burgers, steak) and weekly blackboard specials. The friendly staff were great at catering to all dietary needs and there’s plenty of healthy choices as well.

To Do List

There’s a feeling of freedom about waking up at the Park and stepping straight onto the banks of the Clarence River. It’s glassy in the mornings and evenings, primed for some waterskiing. The river really lives up to its nickname as the largest river on the eastern seaboard, threading its way through deep ravines, lush farmland and forested riverbanks. You can launch your boat or kayak from the Park’s ramp and jetty.

While the river is undoubtedly the star, there are a few other memorable ways to fill a day, or even just a couple of hours in this lovely part of NSW.

The iconic Bendy Bridge, opened in 1932 still joins Grafton and South Grafton. It is a local favourite for good reason. Make your way there as the sun sets, the river reflections and gentle glow make it a serene, picture‑perfect moment you’ll be glad you made the short drive for. Keen spotters will also see some local artwork along the bridge walkway.

If you time your stay right (normally late Oct), Grafton’s world-famous Jacaranda Festival is unmissable. Australia’s longest running floral festival fills the streets with vivid purple blooms, markets, music and community celebrations.

Heads Up

The park is about 15 minutes out of Grafton, which is part of the charm. Stock up before you arrive so you can settle in and enjoy the river without too many trips back into town.
