Eating & Drinking

We stumbled across Mail Room Cafe while walking the streets of Kalaru. It’s a local upscale cafe hotspot conveniently located just across the road from the Park. Smooth espresso and a handy selection of smaller bites, pies and sandwiches.

For a takeaway lunch, the park’s on-site CJ’s cafe is perfect for grabbing a quick meal without venturing too far. There’s a range of tasty burgers and wraps on offer as well as great coffee. We tucked in a beef lasagna served with chips and salad (served as a daily special). Outstanding service and value-for-money.

Drive 5 mins to the coastal town of Tathra, where we recommend treating yourself to a meal at The Wharf Local. It’s a hip lunch spot located inside the historic wharf building itself. The rustic interior is filled with cool art and furniture with delicious cakes and the exterior offering stunning water views.

We stuck around in Tathra and had an early dinner, grabbing fish and chips at Beach Break. It’s within striking distance of the town’s main beach and an adjacent playground and skate park - perfect for tiring the kids out whilst enjoying the sea views.

If you prefer staying in, the park’s spacious camp kitchen is ideal, well-equipped with benches, fridges, and BBQs so you can host your own feast in comfort.

To Do List

Make the most of the swimming pool, jumping pillow, and playground without having to leave the park. There’s plenty of grassy space for kids to ride bikes or kick a ball, and the friendly kangaroos that wander through at dawn and dusk are always a hit.

For nature lovers, Mimosa Rocks National Park is a short drive north, offering rugged headlands, hidden beaches, and scenic bushwalking trails. It’s a top pick for photography, birdwatching, or simply finding a quiet patch of coast to yourself.

Drive 15 minutes inland to Bega, home to the famous Bega Cheese Heritage Centre - part museum, part café, and the perfect spot to stock up on local cheeses and gourmet treats. Bega township also has a few quaint galleries and heritage buildings worth a gander.

If you’re up for a day trip, head south to Merimbula boutique shopping, oyster farms, and plenty of swimming spots to discover.

Heads Up

The kangaroos here are like unofficial park residents - you’ll often find them grazing quietly on the grassy areas at sunrise and sunset. It’s worth keeping your camera handy if you’re walking to the amenities in the early morning.

Pet Friendly

Pets are welcome on all campsites and in the designated pet-friendly cabins.
