Eating & Drinking

For your morning coffee, The Mossy Cafe in Broulee is our favourite. The coffee is consistently excellent, and the cabinet is packed with baked goods that disappear quickly — think warm muffins, pastries and slices. If you’re after something a little fresher, their healthy bowls are colourful, generous and perfect before a morning swim. It’s a relaxed, bright spot that feels very much in step with Broulee’s coastal vibe.

Another great option is Single Fin Canteen & Goods, a sunny little local tucked near the beach. It’s the kind of place where sandy feet are welcome, the coffee is spot on, and the food is simple but thoughtful. We often grabbed a takeaway toastie or smoothie here before heading out for a day of exploring.

For something heartier, head over the river to Smokey Dan’s in Tomakin. Part steakhouse, part smokehouse, part local hangout — it’s a crowd-pleaser. The burgers, pizzas and slow-cooked meats hit the spot after a big beach day, and the live music on weekends brings a great atmosphere.

If you’re looking for a drink to end the day, Broulee Brewhouse is the go-to. The beers are brewed on-site, the setting is relaxed, and the space feels distinctly coastal. It’s an easy place to settle in for a tasting paddle or a schooner before strolling back to the park. There’s a pub-style food menu as well if you fancy a bite to eat with your beer.

If you prefer to self-cater, the Camp Kitchen is roomy and well equipped, and the BBQs are perfect for casual dinners after a day on the beach.

To Do List

If you’re staying a few days, make sure you set aside time for Broulee Island Nature Reserve. The 4km loop walk starts at the southern end of South Broulee Beach and is one of the most scenic short walks on the South Coast. It winds through low coastal heath, pockets of native mangroves and bright yellow tea trees, with constant views back across the headlands.

Broulee is also a fantastic spot for those who love to fish. The Tomaga River, Candlagan Creek, Saltwater Creek and Malua Bay are all easy options depending on the tide and season. Flathead and salmon are common catches, and the calm inlets are perfect if you're taking kids for a first cast. Just remember that NSW requires a recreational fishing licence, and a few areas around Broulee have restrictions, so it’s worth checking before you drop a line.

Candlagan Creek at Mossy Point is a long-time favourite for families. Its sheltered, shallow water makes for excellent snorkelling, and the marine life is surprisingly varied — we’ve even seen the occasional turtle gliding past. The current can pick up where the creek meets the ocean, so keep an eye out, but otherwise it’s a gentle, colourful spot to spend a few hours. Pack lunch and enjoy a picnic in this beautiful spot.

If you’re around on the right weekend, the Batemans Bay Sunday Market is worth the short drive north. Held on the first and third Sunday of each month along the Clyde River, it has a relaxed local vibe with everything from fresh produce and coffee to handmade goods and live music.

Heads Up

The park fills up fast during school holidays, and it can get lively with kids around the Jumping Pillow and pool. If you prefer quieter stays, mid-week or outside peak periods is your best bet.
