This is a true remote retreat, so it’s worth planning ahead before you arrive. The nearest town is Bulahdelah, about 20 minutes away, and it’s the best place to stock up on groceries, fresh produce and any supplies you’ll want for your stay.
Within the park, you’ll find a fully equipped cap kitchen for self-catering. Additionally, the park boasts Leggey’s Barefoot Café, a relaxed, licensed spot serving simple, delicious meals. It’s ideal when you don’t feel like cooking, and we often found ourselves wandering over for a coffee in the morning or an easy lunch looking out across the lake. The vibe is very casual — think fresh brews, light meals and a friendly team who know the local area well.
For the basics, the on-site kiosk stocks everyday staples, snacks, ice creams and those small items you inevitably realise you need mid-stay.
Staying here means being surrounded by one of NSW’s most significant natural landscapes. Myall Lakes National Park stretches out in all directions — an enormous coastal lake system recognised as a Ramsar Wetland of International Significance. With 40 kilometres of untouched beaches, rolling sand dunes and quiet estuaries, it’s no surprise this is one of the state’s most loved national parks. A highlight is The Grandis, a towering flooded gum reaching 76 metres high, and one of the tallest trees in NSW.
Given you’re right on the edge of the water, kayaking is easily one of the best ways to spend the day. The Myall Lakes feel almost endless when you’re out on them — glassy in the mornings, shimmering with birdlife, and backed by long stretches of sand you often have entirely to yourself. If you’ve brought your own kayak or SUP, grab a map from the info centre and start roaming. If not, hire is available nearby through Lazy Paddles in Tea Gardens or EzyKayaks in Hawks Nest
If you’re up for a short drive inland, Great Lakes Winery is a lovely change of pace. Set among rolling greenery in Wootton, it’s a peaceful spot for a tasting and a chat with the owners, Steve and Robyn, who’ve been tending the vineyard for over two decades.
There’s a short stretch of dirt road before you reach the park. It’s well-maintained, but worth taking slowly, especially if you’re towing or arriving after rain.
The Bombah Point Ferry may be closed at times due to intermittent service disruptions. Contact the Park team on the day of arrival to confirm it is operating. Alternative access to the Park is available via Bulahdelah.
Check In is 11am for sites, 2pm for cabins, and Check Out is 2pm for all accommodation.
