You’ll be able to prepare your own meals at the Park if in one of the self-contained cabins which are all equipped with a kitchen or kitchenette. For those camping, there’s also electric BBQs available with picnic tables for outdoor seating.
There’s a tasty local bakery nearby in Heatherbrae’s Pies. Their classic Australian pies are perfect for a quick lunch on the go. We recommend heading outside of Heatherbrae for a pub meal at Lakeside Village Tavern. It’s great value-for-money, serving up the usual pub fare and located in Raymond Terrace (just 10 minutes drive from the Park).
Kids will be able to keep themselves entertained at the Park with a range of activities on offer by swimming in the pool or playing a game of giant chess.
We took advantage of this Park as a central base to explore three regions for the price one of one.
Port Stephens Beaches are a 45-minute drive away and offer some of Australia’s most stunning coastal walks. Tomaree National Park is a standout, with the Tomaree Head Summit Walk offering panoramic views over Shoal Bay and beyond.
Newcastle (30 minutes drive south), is a city in its own right and blends surf beaches with a buzzing food and arts scene. Wander along the Bathers Way coastal walk or explore Darby Street’s boutique shops and cafes.
Lastly, if you’re here for a few days it’s essential to taste what’s on offer in the Hunter Valley. Wine lovers are spoiled with the Hunter just a 30 minute drive away. Cellar doors like Audrey Wilkinson and Tyrrell’s Wines are local icons, offering tastings paired with vineyard views.
This park offers a quiet community feel and is a no-frills, practical base for exploring Newcastle, The Hunter Valley or Port Stephens. It does not offer resort-style facilities but is ultra-convenient, being right off the Pacific Highway.
The swimming pool is only open during the summer months.
Pets are not allowed at this Holiday Park.
