Eating & Drinking

The town of Seaspray is a quiet coastal village made up mainly of beach houses, so if you’re planning to stock up on groceries, your best bet is to drive into nearby Sale (around a 25-30 minute drive).

Whilst you’re in Sale check out The Hunting Ground is your best bet for a morning coffee fix. There’s a range of homemade sandwiches, cakes and muffins to enjoy. Plus, it doubles as a specialty food shop so you can grab a few things to take back to the Park or home with you.

Within a few minutes' walk from the Park, you’ll find The General Store which dishes up delicious fish & chips and a range of tasty burgers - perfect for post-surf lunch. Next door, Waves Bistro & Sand Bar at the surf life-saving club is set right on the cliff overlooking the Ninety Mile Beach. In the evenings, you can enjoy a casual bistro meal or a drink on the deck while watching the surf roll in. The menu features seafood, burgers and other comfort-food classics with that sweeping beach view.

If you head back into Sale, and want to try something a little different, we had a delicious bowl of pho for an early dinner at Viet Kitchen. It’s right in the heart of town, so you’re spoiled for options in the area but this was our pick for its freshness and menu to suit almost everyone.

Of course, if you’d prefer to self cater. There’s BBQs at the park, with plenty of outdoor seating. We grabbed some meat from Ranford’s Family Butcher in Sale and did a big cook up on our last night. Not much beats a family BBQ by the beach whilst the kids are expanding their last ounces of energy for the day.

To Do List

There’s no shortage of ways to slow down and savour this stretch of coastline. The long, sandy beach is the obvious drawcard — uncrowded and patrolled in summer, it’s perfect for swimming, surfing or simply walking for miles along the sand with only the sound of waves for company. We’ve spent whole afternoons here with a towel and a good book.

The gently winding Merriman Creek meets the ocean here, creating a calm, scenic spot that’s perfect for an unhurried afternoon of fishing or a lazy picnic. Along its grassy banks, you’ll find a spacious fishing platform, a sheltered picnic area, and an easy spot to launch your boat or kayak.

For those keen to explore further afield, the drive back toward Sale takes you through some of Gippsland’s most scenic farmland. Make time for the Sale River Heritage & Wetlands Trail Boardwalk and Lake Guthridge, both great spots for walking and photography.

Heads Up

There’s no fuel in Seaspray, so make sure you fill up in Longford, Woodside or Golden Beach before heading down the coast.
