First Impressions
It’s a beautiful sunny day with barely a breath of wind in the air and a clear blue sky as we make our way down to the marina and board our boat for a Half-day trip to K'gari (Fraser Island), conveniently departing from Hervey Bay. Two things strike us straight away as everyone boards the boat and we discuss the journey for the day ahead. Firstly, whilst there’s guidance and helpful information provided along the way there’s also plenty of free time built into the itinerary which is fantastic as we really want to just have a relax on the beach at some stage. Secondly, there doesn’t seem to be that many people on the boat. I asked one of the staff if we happened to have booked at a quieter time but it turns out whilst this boat has a capacity of 100 people, they never book more than 45 on the one tour.
The Offering
Whilst we are on a half day cruise and tour to K’Gari, the team offers a range of options including a 5 hour whale and dolphin spotting experience and a shorter 2 hour sunset cruise. Private Charters are also available. Whilst we haven’t experienced all of their options, speaking to others and going off our K’Gari cruise experience, their dedication to a great guest experience stands out. Staff are all knowledgeable and eager to help or answer any questions. Further to finding out about the deliberately limited number of guests on our cruise, we learned that on any given cruise they run they never take on a capacity of more than 70% of what the boat can handle which we think is a fantastic approach.
You’ll Drive Back For
The flexibility of enjoying a cruise or tour experience as you like it, not needing to fit into an overly busy, cookie-cutter itinerary, whilst also enjoying the space that comes with a smaller group.
