Maybe you just want to have a relaxing cup of coffee and take in the world around you. Whatever your choice is, you’re sure to find it in a list of our favourite Northern Rivers cafes and specialty coffee shops below.
1. BYRON MOONSHINE COFFEE ROASTERS: FEDERAL
Why we love them: Coffee, coffee, coffee. This is the place to go in the Northern Rivers for specialty coffee lovers. On top of that, we love the fact that this is set in a slightly different location to others on this list where the coast dominates, instead being in the lush hinterland of Federal.
Coffee: Byron Moonshine
If you’re hungry: The focus here is purely on coffee but from 8am on weekends there’s a food van serving up an ever changing menu.
Where to find them: 447 Federal Drive, Federal
2. THE SALT MILL: KINGSCLIFF
Why we love them: What kicked off as a hole-in-the-wall location in nearby Currumbin has only got better as they’ve moved to another similar sized spot in Kingscliff. There’s a focus on coffee and great fresh smoothies and acai bowls.
Coffee: Allpress
If you’re hungry: Acai bowls are the order of the day here, a dish made for this sort of location.
Where to find them: 20 Marine Parade, Kingscliff
3. KOPI: LENNOX HEAD
Why we love them: Along with serving great coffee and snacks during the day, Kopi also doubles as a natural wine bar from Thursday to Sunday, staying open until 6pm.
Coffee: Allpress
If you’re hungry: Rotating specials in the sandwich cabinet are your go to.
Where to find them: 70 Ballina St, Lennox Head
4. TOP SHOP: BYRON BAY
Why we love them: This Byron Bay institution is the perfect place pre or post beach to sprawl out over the grass, enjoy a coffee, something to eat and the beautiful sunshine.
Coffee: Single O
If you’re hungry: There’s a huge number of delicious sandwiches and other snacks on offer but we can never go past the classic Bacon & Egg Roll.
Where to find them: 65 Carlyle St, Byron Bay
5. KARTEL ESPRESSO: CABARITA BEACH
Why we love them: Beautiful coffee meets beautiful location. We love grabbing a takeaway and heading over to nearby Cabarita Beach, a classic green coast beach where trees meet the sea.
Coffee: Social Espresso
If you’re hungry: Add one of the donuts to your order. They are often changing in flavour options but always good.
Where to find them: 16 Tweed Coast Rd Shop 2b, Cabarita Beach
