Where To Stay In Huskisson
Located as close as you can get to Huskisson Beach, Holiday Haven Huskisson Beach is a sprawling but spacious resort-style Holiday Park that is great for groups of all types. A wide range of facilities means there’s plenty of entertainment to be had on site, from a tennis court and swimming pool through to stand up paddle board hire and of course a great camp kitchen and BBQ area. There are several accommodation options here, all Sites are powered and there is a variety of Cabins for all budgets and group sizes, sleeping up to eight people. The park is pet friendly but only on selected Sites and Cabins.
Where To Eat & Drink In Huskisson
One of our favourite spots for breakfast or lunch is 5 Little Pigs Cafe. This locally owned and run cafe serves up both classics and more innovative food at an affordable price. If you’re there for brekky and have an appetite, go for the brekky burger - a mouthwatering combo of sausage, egg, cheese, onion and fermented chilli sauce. The Jervis Bay Brewing Co. is a great craft brewery, well set up with a variety of food trucks to dig into whilst you’re enjoying one of their many fantastic beers. They also cater to non-beer drinkers with a variety of wine and soft drinks and the outdoor area is pet friendly.
What To Do In Huskisson
This is an area known for its marine life, and with over 100 dolphins calling the Jervis Bay region their home year-round, you’re more than likely to spot them on one of the many dolphin watching cruises available. There’s several options but we recommend Jervis Bay Wild Cruises. If you happen to be in town from May through to November, you’re also a chance to spot some whales as they track along their migration path. A must visit just ten minutes away from Huskisson is the incredible Hyams Beach. The white sands and turquoise waters here make it one of the most picturesque beaches in Australia and even the world. For a rainy day outing, head to Huskisson Pictures, a classic local cinema that is worth a visit even just to look at this charming building from the outside.
The Essentials
This is a well provisioned town with both supermarket and pharmacy located on the main drag of Owen St. If you’re in need of caravan and camping gear, your best bet is a trip to nearby Nowra (20 minutes drive) where there is a BCF.
The Drive
As always, we give you the rundown on the drive you’ll take from the three closest capital cities:
From Canberra - At just 197 km from Canberra, a quick zip along the Federal Highway and if traffic conditions are in your favour, you can get there in not long over two and a half hours.
From Sydney - A slightly longer drive at 316 km but still very doable in one day and without a stop if you choose, with the journey taking you through Wollongong and straight down the coast. If you’re after a stop, the best towns are after Wollongong - we recommend picturesque Gerringong.
From Melbourne - There are two routes to take from Melbourne, either 829 km inland via the Victorian Alpine Region and then the Snowy Valley in NSW, or 859 km through Gippsland in Victoria then along the coast. It’s worth noting that while the latter is only slightly longer in distance, due to the roads and speed limits it is about an extra 90 minutes of drive time and includes tolls (which the inland route does not). Either way, you’ll need a stop along the way - we recommend Beechworth on the inland route and Eden on the coastal route.
